Devices treated differntly in Acess Point Mode. TP LINK AC120, Archer A54
I am setting up an Archer A54 in Acess Point mode and it is behaving strangely.
The internet light is not lit.
Some devices when connected to the A54 act as though they are connected to my primary router.
- Able to connect to my primary router
- Able to connect to the internet.
- Visible on the devices list of my primary router but not the A54
- Unable to connect to the A54 or access the admin interface.
Some devices act as though they are connected to the A54
- Unable to connect to the internet
- Able to connect to the A54

I cannot tell what the difference is between devices that behave one way or another but it is consistent when restarting the A54.
Any advice would be greatly appprechated.

You wrote earlier that you've set the A54 to "LAN TYPE is 'Static IP'".
The setting "Static IP" means the A54 will use the IP Address, Subnet Mask and Gateway from the entry fields shown on that same page and it will not request anything from the primary router.
If you can't connect to the A54 now, then the "IP Address" set under "Static IP" is most likely not in the subnet definced by the primary router.
In this case you'd have three options:
- Change the static IP address of the A54 to one that is part of the main routers subnet (like @terziyski mentioned above)
- Switch the LAN Type setting of the A54 from "Static IP" to "Smart IP(DHCP)" and the the A54 will get its IP address from the primary router
- Increase the size of the subnet of the primary router to also cover the IP address currently used by the A54 (provided this is possible)
Edit: In order to be able to access the A54 now you will need to manually configure the network card of your computer with a static IP address in the same subnet as the IP address of the A54. (for example, if the A54 had the IP address 192.168.0.1, then you could set the computer to 192.168.0.2)

Hi,
Make sure you don't have the DHCP server enabled on both, the primary router and the Archer A54.
If there is more than one DHCP server active within a network, then client devices will obtain their IP addresses from whichever DHCP server is the first to respond, which can be completely random.

The A54 LAN TYPE is "Static IP". Is there somewhere else i need to go to turn of DHCP?

TP-Link has been using a few different designs of the admin interface on their routers. Just click through the menus and look for one named something with "DHCP".

Thanks!
I was able to track down the setting and that has fixed it, but I can no longer connect to the A54. It does not seem to be requesting an IP from my primary router and is not listed as a connected device. (Its mac address is not listed.) It also does not show up in the tether app. Any ideas?
Now that i have turned of DHCP i have no way to get into the settings interface for the device.
