Hi,

I used Deco units in my motel, 2 buildings, ethernet connected of 20 Decos.

I created the Deco Network initially with Router mode, and added 20 deco units to the network without any problem.

However, after my upgrade to Fibre, the I find Router mode is very slow (considering 900+mbps fibre, the download speed via router-mode-mesh-wifi can only reach about 50mbps).

Then I tried:

 - Used TP-Link Switches for ethernet network. Not relying on Deco's ethernet port for chaining purpose. Only 1 port is used to connect to the near switch.

 - Used Access Point Mode

The result is a lot better, can reach up to 300 mbps, consider there are bridges between two buildings, it is pretty good.

Then I find Room 12 has slow Wifi, and many times, I connected to it, but cannot access to internet.

Then I thought maybe I add another deco in room 12 will solve the problem, I bought a new set of Decos, plug in the ethernet port from a switch, the light turned GREEN after a minute!

Then I opened the Deco App, trying to add this Deco Unit, there is no pulsing Blue, and solid Green means it is already registered.

However, Room 12's wifi is still very bad, although a New Deco with Ethernet connected to the network with Solid Green light, is  right next to me.

I suspect the Deco was not really registered to the network, or how do I add this deco to the network? It automatically change to Solid Green after first plug.

You may ask: how did you add the previous 20 Decos into the Network through Deco App?

The answer is: They were added when I was using Router Mode.

My questions:

1. How to add a new deco unit to Network in Deco App, if the Deco Network is in AP mode?

2. How to solve Deco Wifi slow/unstable issue? Although the light is solid green.

Thanks,

Miles

Re:How to add a new Deco Unit to a network in Access Point Mode?-Solution

Problem solved:

Press the reset button for 15 seconds, then the deco unit will:

 - solid yellow (start up)

 - blinking blue (setup mode)

Then use the deco app to find and add this deco unit.

After this is done, the Wifi speed is 600 mbps, great.

The previous issue: Solid Green is cheating !?

The new bought Deco will automatically "join" the new network with solid green.

Then the Wifi is only 20 mbps and very unstable.

Hi, thanks for posting question here.

First, this guide is for your reference: How to add an additional unit to your Deco network

Usually, we recommend putting the new Deco near main Deco for setup/auto-connect. Then you may connect it to other devices or locate it.

For your situation,  the new Deco might join in the network and worked via wireless backhaul automatically even though it is connected to the switch directly ay the beginning. So the speed is not expected.
