Hi all,

I am planning to setup a Deco mesh system (2 units of X20) using ethernet backhaul, but abit unsure about the process and whether the current router will work.

Some background for context, I am from Singapore so my apartment has Ethernet ports (from the wall) in each room which is connected to my main router which is hidden away in a fixed location.

So this is my understanding of how it should work so please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

I simply need to connect each Deco to the ethernet ports in e.g. the living room and master bedroom and put them in access point mode.

My existing router which is hidden in a cabinet will need to be put into router mode (aka bridge mode?) as I dont plan to use it to broadcast any WIFI since its hidden in a cabinet.

And just run through the Deco app to setup?

Do let me know if I am wrong/anything else to look out for.

Thanks in advance (:

Hi, thanks for posting question here.

Yes, you are right. If you do not want to use wifi network from your main router, you can disable its wifi function, but your main router still needs to work as a router instead of a pure modem.

First, you may follow  Guide1 to set up the Deco network. Then follow Guide2 to set up Deco to work in Access Point mode.

The article is also for your reference: What’s the difference between Access Point mode and Router mode on the Deco?
