Model: TD-W9960
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.5.0 0.8.0 v009d.0 Build 230705 Rel.45626n

TD-W9960(EU) v1.2 (setup in Bridge mode, wireless disabled) stops forwarding packets for around 5 seconds every few minutes.  It might do this twice in one minute, and then not for another ten minutes, the occurence is random, but the duration of dropped packets is almost always 5 secs.

The line itself never drops according to the ISP (Andrews & Arnold - UK ISP).  The ISP performs 1s LCP echos, and regularly sees 1-2% loss from their side.

We've only recently narrowed this down to the TD-W9960, as I thought it unlikely to be this device as it is acting only as a DSL bridge.  I have a Mikrotik acting as PPPoE endpoint and firewall on the ethernet side.  Restarting the PPPoE or the Mikrotik itself does not fix the issue whereas restarting the TD-W9960 does fix the issue, but only for 6-12 hours.

Is this a known issue / is there a firmware update to this device of which I'm not aware.

Any assistance gratefully received.

Paul

  @SweetP

Hi, thanks for posting question here.

When the internet drops, how about the DSL light on the router?

If it is not stable, it is suggested to follow this guide to check.

Or you may switch TD-W9960 into DSL modem router mode, and observe the network stability.

Tuesday

@Marvin_S many thanks for the reply, and apologies for the delayed reply.

The DSL light stays lit at all times, and the Mikrotik firewall/router on my side of the TD-W9960 never shows the PPPoE link going down.

All I see (and the ISP sees) is occasional 5 second outages.

I haven't tried putting the TD-W9960 in router mode, as I've not yet had the time.  I've previously reset the modem, and the splitter is build into the wall port.  The VDSL service worked perfectly with the previous ISP who supplied their own router; I've had to supply my own bridge to work with the new ISP.

Thanks again.

Paul
