hi, I have connect a 15m CAT6 cable from my Router at the front door of the house to  and put into my RE200 TP link port half -way to get better access in the back kitchen

I have 2.4 access 👍 and when i do a Ookla test on it- no difference really versus wifi signal, no 5G coming up - but i'd expect that maybe. I wanted to have the tp link plugged in the kitchen itself to get better coverage in the back of the house with the ethernet cable plugged in to it but because the kitchen is an extention and solid wall  red light comes up for the 2.4ghz etc- but surely if it is wired into the range extender - this should not matter if you get me? i should get a green light for 2.4ghz or 5 even if ethernet plugged in to tp link??

or am I over thinking it.

Hi,

If you have the RE200 connected to the main router via Ethernet cable, then make sure you have switched it to "Access Point Mode".

  @woozle hiya thanks for that

I managed to change on the TPlink web link from wifi to AP,

I have all the green lights a-go, 👍, I was wondering though I get 75-90 Mbps through it now in the back room, but the main router is 500 fibre, i know you lose some

mbps but I didnt think it would go down to 75-90 on an Ookla test on my phone. I have 15 m cat 6 cable, but I was wondering if it was something to do with the firmware of the RE200? or the age of it as its 5+ years old , firmware is 2 and I know you can go up to 5.8 or do I need a new extender to cater for higher speed from main router?

The answer to your question is yes.

TP-Link decided to equip their low-cost range extenders (including the RE200) with 100 Mbps Ethernet ports. https://www.tp-link.com/en/home-networking/range-extender/re200/#specifications

The lowest priced range extender with 1000 Mbps (Gigabit) Ethernet port that is also widely available would be the RE450. However, given the RE450's Wi-Fi specs it would likely only yield the full 500 Mbps under ideal conditions.
