Firmware Version: 1.1.1 Build 20240912 rel.12553(4555)

Hello!

I've been looking over the internet and debugging the issue for a few days now, but so far have not managed to find a solution or root of the issue and am wondering if I should return the router and maybe buy a new one - it's still in 14 day return window regardless of whether there's an issue with it.

As to my issue - there seems to be something weird happening with my wired LAN connection - it drops occasionally - and it's not that I lose internet (which I also do of course) - I lose connection to the router itself - packets get lost, can't ping it or enter the web interface (Wifi seems to be unaffected and work fine) - I've been tracking it with PingPlotter and using the ping command.

  • This does not seem to be an issue with the PC or the cable, as connecting directly to my ISP Modem has not had any issues before I got the router, and swapping to it for a few days I've had no issues either - which came back again when I reconnected to the router again.
  • The connection between Modem and Router seems to be intact, at least when I reconnect to the router, the "Online Duration" is unaffected, and manually disconnecting them immediately results in it getting reset
  • The router and modem are in separate subnets, and routers IP on the Modem subnet seems to stay the same and untouched
  • Connection Type is set to Dynamic IP - I'm a bit confused what connection it is meant to be referring to - my ISP is indeed Dynamic IP, but the router is connected to the Modem, but I'm assuming this shouldn't be causing issues
  • The LAN issues seem to be acknowledged by the router with LAN_OFF and LAN_ON LED Controller logs that seem to match the time I get packet loss/lose connection to the router (more logs below)
  • Configuration is mostly stock, though I do have an IoT network and an SSD attached and shared through the router, no idea if this could be related
  • It has not been happening a lot so it's hard to debug, but for over a day when I left my PC on constantly the issue was not happening, and when I put it to sleep tonight the issue reappeared, though also in very short packet loss burts contrary to previously losing LAN for up to a few minutes at a time. I'm guessing it's a coincidence though

Still got 4 more days to return it and if I find no obvious reason or fix I probably will and try to get a new one. I'm assuming this is not expected behavior, I had a lot of routers before and never had a similar issue, and I'm assuming this inconsistency of the issue suggests it's not just me having completely missconfigured something, I'd hope I can buy the same router again and it may work?

Any help appreciated,

thanks!

Below is the log, I can't upload a .txt, and when I tried Pastebin the post got blocked because of "illegal external links" :/

Re:Intermittent LAN disconnection to new Archer BE230-Solution
a week ago - last edited Friday

@Ame180

I'm glad to hear that replacing the Ethernet cable resolved the initial issue.

Cable compatibility with devices can be affected by factors such as length, quality, technical specifications, and the version of the connection standard. Different network devices may require specific cable gauge sizes for optimal performance. While most network cards, hubs, and routers automatically determine connection speeds, they sometimes get it wrong, leading to connection drops. The Archer BE230 may be more sensitive to internet signal quality, which could explain the drops when using a non-qualified cable.

For the ping spike issue, please monitor it for a longer period. If the problem persists, kindly provide the following:

  1. What device are you using to test the ping? Please share the model of the adapter (if it's a computer) or the model of the phone and its operating system.

  2. Test with different devices to ensure the issue isn't specific to one device.

  3. Adjust the wireless settings on the BE230, such as the wireless channel, channel width, and Smart Connect settings, to see if any changes improve the situation.

  @Ame180

Hi,

Thanks for posting on TP-Link Community.

You can first do some basic troubleshooting steps, such as changing the LAN ports on the router and testing a different Ethernet cable.

Please connect the device directly to the router, without any other devices in between, like a switch.

If the issue persists, please provide us with the model of this device and its adapter.

If it is okay for you, I would escalate your issue to our senior engineering team for further analysis.

  @Sunshine Sorry for late reply, I thought I'd get e-mail notifications for these but didn't so I just noticed it now.

The devices were connected directly with nothing in-between. I have not checked a differrent cable yet, as I don't have a different cable that's long enough I believe (it's a few meters of distance), and the cable is not an issue for different routers I've tried so I've been trying other steps so far (and the issue appears with hours in between generally so I can try only so many things in the time given. I haven't tried the port either, though the 2.5 Gbps port was the sole reason of me choosing this device so didn't even think to try different ones - I'll be trying to replace the device with a new one if I can and if not I'll keep debugging these.

I was advised by Polish TP-Link support team to also try to reset the device which I did to no avail.

On the other hand, the issues seems to have significantly escalated for this one. Now the disconnections not only affect LAN but Wi-Fi as well, and it seems like the whole device is almost going offline now with a lot of new logs appearing (and again it's not just internet connection lost, it's complete loss of connection to the router in PingPlotter and manually trying to access it, this time also through Wi-Fi):

  @Ame180

Hi,

Thanks for your update.

So you mean all the devices have the unstable issue now?

Please try the troubleshooting suggestion we provided earlier and switch the LAN port before testing again. This will help us determine if the issue is related to a specific LAN port.

Could you also provide a detailed description of the Wi-Fi disconnection issue?

Once we receive that information, I will escalate your case as soon as possible.

Re:Intermittent LAN disconnection to new Archer BE230

  @Sunshine The issue for all the devices visibly appeared only once, but it happens for a few minutes so if I'm not using a device then I miss it. I changed the LAN port and while I have not observed the issue myself as I wasn't looking at the pings at that time, there were logs with LAN getting disconnected and reconnected again on the other Ethernet port as well.

During the WiFi issue the devices seemed to retain WiFi connection, but the router seemed to be refusing traffic - internet wasn't working, and trying to go onto the router page also didn't work over WiFi (like it did before when the LAN issue appeared).

I got a new device and am returning the old one. Should mount it tomorrow so I should probably know by Sunday whether any issues appear with the new device or not.

Thanks for the help!

Re:Intermittent LAN disconnection to new Archer BE230

This is certainly interesting, I got a new Archer BE230 and had absolutely no issues for the first week, and since Saturday I've been having the LAN drops quite frequently. I am yet to reproduce such a LAN drop on my Modem. I'm ordering a new cable so we'll see but it's starting to feel like some software issue either on Windows 11 side or TP-Link side or both - the Ethernet device on my PC doesn't have any error logs or anything interesting, it only gets events that it lost connection and that it tries to check whether it got restored, until it is. Nothing suggesting a hardware issue on the PC side so far.

@Ame180

Aside from this Windows PC, are there any other wired devices connected to the BE230's LAN port? Do they also experience intermittent disconnections? Please ensure the Ethernet adapter on this Windows PC is up-to-date.

Additionally, try using another Cat5e or Cat6 cable to rule out any quality issues with the current one.

Lastly, check the BE230 web interface for an option to disable Flow Control.

 I have the same problem, so as you can see it's the router's fault. I replaced it with a new one and it's still the same. I have 4 devices connected by cables and 15 devices via WiFi and it randomly blocks internet access despite an active connection. I installed the old router and everything worked fine. So it's not the cables or devices' fault, it's clearly a router problem.

Do you know about this problem and have a solution or should I return the router and buy another company because this disconnection of devices is driving me crazy. It is impossible to work like this.

Re:Intermittent LAN disconnection to new Archer BE230

  @Sylvano I don't know if it's the same issue - my router's internet connection doesn't drop out, it's the Ethernet connection between my desktop and the router specifically. I can still access the router (and the internet) via Wi-Fi. I've gotten a new cable to confirm if it might be related, the cable I currently have is unusual (it's a Ugreen cable) so maybe there's something weird going on there (the cable seems way too thin?). Though it definitely seems like there's at least *some* issue on the software level, as the issue does not appear when connected to the Modem directly.

  @Kevin_Z I have a TV connected as well but I don't use it as much so it's hard to catch it - not aware of any diagnosis tool I could run on the TV to see if the connection drops at any point (I could go for hours or even days without noticing the issue at all, and then there were times where the connection was dropping multiple times a minute so it's hard to track the issue without some form of long term observation), on the PC I have some tools and of course I generally notice when it happens. I've been using a Ugreen cat6 cable so it shouldn't be an issue, but I'm not sure about how/why it's so slim so maybe there's something weird about it - ordered a new cat6 that's more "typical" and will test with it.

In regards to Flow Control - I can confirm I had it disabled on the previous router and it didn't help, I'll see how things perform with the new ethernet cable and if it reappears I'll try turning it off again on the current one and testing too.

  @Ame180 I also have a network drive connected via cable and every day, sometimes twice a day I get notifications that the connection to the host has been lost. I can't get to the server from the outside but it works inside the network. Sometimes after 5 minutes, sometimes after 5 hours I get a notification that the connection to the host has been resumed and I did absolutely nothing. I also use a TV on WiFi and it has already dropped the connection to the Internet several times despite the WiFi connection and the WiFi works normally on the phone. Other times, despite the WiFi connection on the phone there is no access to the Internet and the TV works fine. This router simply randomly turns off Internet access.
