I have three TP-Link routers in my home: one AX55v1, which serves as the main router, and two AX53v1 units that operate wirelessly in satellite mode. To improve coverage, I decided to connect one of the AX53 units to the AX55 with an Ethernet cable, as the concrete walls are blocking the signal, and, even with three routers, I cannot cover the entire apartment. All routers are using the latest firmware: version 1.2.4 Build 20240509 rel.64683 for the AX53 and version 1.3.3 Build 20240628 rel.37017(4555) for the AX55.

Previously, I had an AX23, which I replaced with the AX55. At that time, I easily established a backhaul connection from one of the AX53 units to the AX23. However, this time, I was unable to achieve the same.

When I connect an Ethernet cable from the AX55 to the AX53, the network connection crashes, and I lose access to the internet as well as the configuration menu of the main router. If I unplug the cable, everything returns to normal. If I keep the cable plugged in, the AX55 sometimes reboots; other times, nothing happens, and I can establish a connection to the satellite, but there is no backhaul, even though the network map shows that the cable is connected to the router.

I have tried both factory resetting and connecting the cable between the routers before adding the secondary one as a satellite, as well as adding the secondary one as a satellite and then connecting the cable afterward, but nothing has worked. I had also assigned a static IP for the satellites but removed it; however, the situation did not change.

I tried establishing a backhaul connection with one of the AX53s as the main router and the other one as a satellite, but again, it did not work.

After much trial and error, I reached the conclusion that, despite the AX53 having firmware version 1.2.4 Build 20240509 rel.64683, which is newer than the one posted on the EasyMesh backhaul compatibility page, for some reason, the newer firmware does not support backhaul. However, so far everything works fine with firmware 1.2.4 Build 20240206 (Public Beta Firmware for Trial). I installed the beta firmware on one of the satellites, and the backhaul connection was established flawlessly.

Hi,

 

Your observations regarding the Archer AX53 V1 are correct. 

 

At present, only the Public Beta Firmware 1.2.4 Build 20240206 supports EasyMesh via Ethernet backhaul.

 

The thing is that unless someone is an active reader of this forum (you are by far not the first person to report this 1.2.4 beta vs. 1.2.4 release issue) a user normally doesn't know about this and just assumes the "newer" firmware should include the features of the older firmware.

Hello there, i was searching for previous similar issues to mine and i stumpled upon this thread.

The thing that is the same as your is that my AX53(but V2) seems misbehaving with my other AX55v1

 

My setup is a bit different but the issue is the same. Now the AX53 work only in wifi easymesh, as soon as i plug the eth cable the whole LAN becaome unusable

 

My main Router is AX72pro and 2 months ago i added an AX53v2 to my "lab" without issues in easymesh+ethernet backhaul.

The issue started 3 days ago when i added a new AX55v1 as a second floor "access point" also backed up with ethernet, i struggled with the initial configuration but i finally succeded after an hour or so.

Fast forward to the next day where i logged to the WEB GUI of the AX72pro and suddenly the whole lan collapsed. After many hours trying everything to understand what happened i finally discovered that unplugging the AX53 from the ethernet all came back to life after 1 minute and the AX53 still connected to wifi easymesh. I think it could be the same if i unplug the AX55 and leave the AX53 connected. 

At this point what can i do? the are all with the newest firmware

I contacted the support where they basically responded me with a standard reply about the conf. of easymesh ethernet backhaul. this is what i replied back:

 

 

Hello, basically i re-did the configuration from scratch but this time with the ethernet already plugged in when i reset the AX53 to factory default.All seems to be good and i got a nice easymesh backed with ethernet.

 

Fast forward today where i logged in to the main router (AX72pro) and the whole lan collapsed again.

Sure enough when i unplugged the AX53 from the ethernet all went back to normal and it continued to work i easymesh wifi.

 

That's not the behavior that i intended to use because th AX53 is quite distant from the main router and wifi is weak. The other AX55 seems to work fine. Could it be some incompatibility ? I dont know but i can't live with this. please update me with a solution

Good day everyone,

I have managed to get the ethernet backhaul to work between the AX55 V1 EU & AX53 V1 EU, using the AX55 as the main router. I did however, have to install the US firmware versions to the EU versions of the routers for it to work.

 

These are the steps that I followed:

1. Download the US version of firmware for the AX55: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/download/archer-ax55/v1/#Firmware

2. Download the public beta firmware for the AX53: https://static.tp-link.com/upload/beta/2024/202402/20240206/Archer_AX53_V1_1.2.4_Build_20240206.zip
3. Remove all easymesh devices under the easymesh section of the web interface of the AX55.
4. Connect to the AX55. Upload and install the US firmware to the AX55.
5. Reset the AX53 twice, using the physical reset button on the router. Allow it to reset and start up fully and then reset it again.
6. Connect to the AX53 using the router's default wifi SSID and password (or directly with a LAN cable to your computer).

7. Upload and install the public beta fimware to the AX53. Allow it to apply the firmware and fully boot up before moving to the next step.

8. Use a mini DC UPS and connect it to the AX53. Allow it to fuly boot up on the mini DC UPS.

9. Connect to the AX53 again and log into its web interface.
10. Change the AX53 Easymesh mode to satellite router. Allow for the lights on the router to stay solid on, do not connect to the router again.

11. Once the lights on the AX53 are solid on, connect to the AX55 and add the AX53 to the AX55 Easymesh wirelessly.
12. On the advanced easymesh page, click edit on the AX55 and enable backhaul steering.

13. Once the AX53 has been added and the AX55 shows that the AX53 is connected to easymesh network with a strong wireless connection, move the AX53 while connected to the mini DC UPS to the area of the house with the ethernet connection to the AX55. Try to move carefully so that the AX53 does not turn off and remains connected to the AX55 wirelessly. Both routers should have an established easymesh connection, even if it's through a very weak connection, before moving to the next step.

14. Connect the ethernet cable from the AX55 to the LAN1 port of the AX53.
15. Wait for 5 minutes and then log into the web interface of the router.

16. Check the advanced easymesh page and it should show that the router is connected to easymesh via ethernet.

17. I have had a stable connection with excellent speeds. I have a 1GBps fibre line and I'm able to get these speeds on the other end of the house.

Thanks, Joseph I already chatted with the support about my issue and, after some trial and error, i can say i resolved. I basically reproduced some steps like @NivaIR without the firmware part. Previously the main method ,for me, to add a satellite was simply to reset to factory, let it boot and then add it from the main router settings. I then switched method by login to the resetted device and then make it a satellite by selecting in the webpage and only after that add it from the main router
