Hi

 

I've just added an X50 Outoor to my existing P9 network. Although it is connected to the network, the signal is weak, I believe, because it is connecting to the main P9 unit, which is upstairs and the furthest away from where the X50 unit is placed outside.

 

When I go onto the Deco app and select the X50, I see there is an option to change Connection Preference from Auto to one of the other Deco units, but every time I try and save my changes, I get the message "Failed to save the information. Please try again later."

 

No matter how many times I go back and retry, it will not let me save/change the connection preference. I see numerous other people in this forum with the same message, but no answer seems to be available on how to get around it.

 

I have tried to update the firmware, but the Deco App refuses to download the update, stopping at 50%. Via a web browser, I have installed it manually, but it doesn't seem to take effect, even after multiple reboots.

 

I have tried to remove the X50 from the network and re-add it, but still no difference.

 

Can someone from Deco please advise how to manually set which Deco P9 unit the X50 connects to so I can get a stronger signal? And is there another way I can update the firmware?

Hi, welcome to the community.

Have you tried to find the IP address of the Deco X50-outdoor through the Deco APP(such as 192.168.71.250 here) and access its separate web UI via the IP address directly to update the firmware:

 

Personally, I don't think it is due to the firmware of the Deco X50-outdoor.

As long as the satellite Deco supports "Connection Preference", the Deco APP will display the option to customize the signal source. But sometimes, if the selected Deco doesn't support Connection Preference, the Deco APP would report an error, just like the one you received earlier.

 

By the way, Is there any chance that you could connect the Deco X50-outdoor via an Ethernet cable to the nearest Deco P9?

I have tried to connect directly to the X50 but that too doesn't allow the firmware update.

Are you saying that although the X50 has the option "Connection Preference", it doesn't actually support it? If so, why display it?

 

Connecting via network cable is unfortunately, not an option.

 

Do you have any other suggestions or reasons these messages appear?

It is my understanding that Deco P9 does not support Connection Preference feature. By TP-Link design, all Deco units in Deco mesh must support Connection Preference feature for it to work. 

Unfortunately, that would mean you won't be able to configure it for X50-Outdoor as long as you have P9s in your Deco mesh.

I'll have to leave it as it is then and hope its fast enough picking up the furthest away Deco.
