Model: Deco X10
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

Hello. I recently purchased 3 deco x10 (one at a time) and connected them together in this way: I have 3 floors (including the garage. For simplicity I will number them in order starting from 1). the garage deco and the third floor deco are connected via ethernet to the telecom router on the top floor. the last deco, located on the 1st floor, is connected via wifi to the 3rd floor.

Diagram:

Garage:Ethernet - 2st Floor:Wifi  - 3rd Floor:Ethernet

Now there are two problems. I will start by saying that they are in AP mode

-1. having another free ethernet port on the garage deco I decided to connect a switch via ethernet... the big problem is that the deco port switches to 100Mbit/s when the switch and all the connected devices are Gigabit! I don't understand... shouldn't it be ALL Gigabit!?

-2. before this setup I had this configuration:

Garage:Wifi - 2nd Floor:Ethernet - 3rd Floor:Ethernet

When I tried to move around the house my phone (I took it as a test device) did not lose even a single wifi bar. Very rarely did it lose one but only during quick movements. Now it remains for several seconds with only 2 bars before moving to the closest deco and sometimes it also makes a mistake preferring the one in the garage (reinforced concrete) instead of the one on the 2nd floor (kitchen and where I am). Maybe having them connected via ethernet does the ieee 1905 protocol come into play? Is this what could "annoy"?

-3. How does the "main" deco work? Can I set the deco connected via wireless as the main one or only the one connected via ethernet to the telecom router?

Please, these points are very important to me and I would appreciate an answer to each point I mentioned (the order does not make one point more important than the other!).

Thank you very much

  @gvpt Hi, welcome to the community.

Is your current network topology like:

Here are some details for your reference:

The main Deco needs to be one of the Decos that are connected via Ethernet cables to the ISP telecome router(like the garage Deco or 3rd floor Deco here).

"the big problem is that the deco port switches to 100Mbit/s when the switch and all the connected devices are Gigabit! I don't understand... shouldn't it be ALL Gigabit!?"

-It should be Gigabit and please also try to replace a new Ethernet cable between the garage Deco and the Gigabit switch.

For the last question about the device roaming, It is suggested to refer to this link-Why my clients don't roam/connect to the nearest Deco node?

It is actually the mobile devices themselves that decide to connect which AP especially when more than one APs are within the roaming threshold of the mobile device.

Thank you very much and best regards.

  @David-TP after almost a week I think I discovered the problem. It's not a bad cable or a bad switch (this problem is very present in the forum and none of you have ever bothered to fix it!). Let me start by saying that the network to which I attached the deco is well tested. I've been using it for years and there are no problems whatsoever. The cables and switches I have are ALL GIGABIT! I think when I connect the switch to the deco, the deco recognizes that there are multiple devices connected on this switch. Then accordingly lower the speed to allow all devices connected to the switch to connect "evenly" and thus avoid any kind of bottleneck. If so, this feature is not written anywhere! Before coming to a conclusion I did further tests. I changed cables (even those supplied with the deco!), switches and I also reversed the deco units but everything doesn't seem to work. The last test I did was yesterday when I tried to connect the switch. I connected my gigabit latpop, then my cams, printers (all 100MB/s). Until yesterday everything was working fine. This morning I check and see that the deco port has been changed for the umpteenth time to the 100MB/s speed! I have both managed and unmanaged (tplink) switches. None of these report collisions, errors, etc! Simply the deco changes the speed of the door and that's it.

PS: I also changed the deco setup:

Deco Garage(backhaul ethernet) ----> 2nd floor Deco-Principal (ethernet connect direclty ROUTER TELECOM) ----> 3nd floor ##ROUTER TELECOM## <---- 3nd floor Deco (ethernet connect direclty ROUTER TELECOM)

Mynet

A very important question: How do I disable this and resolve this issue once and for all!? Honestly, I'm tired, otherwise I'll ask for the products to be returned.

  @gvpt

Hi, Thanks for the update, and sorry it was a little bit late.

The suspicion "when I connect the switch to the deco, the deco recognizes that there are multiple devices connected on this switch. Then accordingly lower the speed to allow all devices connected to the switch to connect "evenly" and thus avoid any kind of bottleneck", I don't think is programmed (or coded) anywhere on Deco.

Can I have the model number of the "managed and unmanaged (TP-link) switches" that were used for the test?

How about the model number of the Telecom router?

Just to be sure, is the tested topology like the following picture?

Later, I would like to follow up on your case via email. Are you able to constantly reproduce this issue?

Wait for your reply and best regards.

  @David-TP

I made a diagram. As you can see from the photo the 1st and 2nd floors are connected together (cascade) and the 2nd floor decoder is connected to the 3rd floor router. The deco on the 3rd floor is connected directly to the router. Furthermore, the deco on the 2nd floor is the main one. The cylinders are the decos while that little rectangle is the router. The lines represent Ethernet links.

As for the Ethernet problem, it persists. I tried updating the firmware of all 3 decos and initially it worked. I tried putting all 3 on the table and connecting them together with the cables that came with the box. Both with the switch and without the ethernet port it was always 1000M. Today after several reboots and enabling/disabling fast roaming everything went back to 100M again! It goes without saying that the problem is not the cables, much less the switches (tplink. TL-SG105PE AND TL-SG108). More and more convinced that the problem is the deco/software.

I also attach the various deco logs

  @gvpt

Hi, Thanks for the update.

It's me in the email.laugh

I was a little bit curious about where you used to plug the Ethernet switches during the previous tests. Is it behind the 1st floor Deco X10?

Theoretically, when Deco is in AP mode, the "main Deco" in the Mesh system is more "symbolic". the internet speed of the 3rd-floor Deco should be independent of the speed of the 2nd-floor main Deco.

Have you further checked whether "the Deco port has been changed to 100mbps" was mainly on the 2nd-floor main Deco+1st-floor Deco, or all 3*Deco X10s?

Thank you very much and wait for your reply.

  @David-TP I only have one switch and it is connected to the 1st floor. yesterday I checked again and the port is back to 100Mb/s. I unplugged the ethernet cables from the deco/switch on the first floor and it is back to 1000Mb/s again.

It's only the first floor deco that goes up to 100Mb/s speed

Were you able to view the logs I attached?

Hi, Thanks for the update.

I can't find something useful in the system logs so I'll escalate your case to the senior engineer directly for further assistance.

Please check the email later for more suggestions.

Thank you very much and Best regards.
