Hello,

Recently, I upgraded my old router (TL-WR841N) to a new TP-Link Archer AX55 (Wi-Fi 6). Since then, I've been experiencing major issues with ping, particularly while gaming. Everything else, like streaming and browsing, seems to work fine, but my ping is very unstable during games.

The ping jumps from 23ms to as high as 1500ms, sometimes even reaching 3000ms, and it fluctuates every few seconds. I've done some research and tried a few fixes, including enabling QoS and reducing the bandwidth, but neither has solved the problem.

I never had this issue with my old, cheaper router, so I'm not sure what's going wrong.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Kejcr

  @kejcr

Hi,

Please change the DNS settings to Google settings.

And can you provide a screenshot of the ping result when the issue happens?

  @Sunshine

I've updated the DNS settings to Google's as suggested and restarted the router. Then I tested CS2 (game) and took three screenshots over an 8-second period. Initially, the ping started low, gradually increased, and then returned to normal. It did not reach 1000ms ping or even more. Maybe because the DNS help it or maybe because I have played for a really short period of time just to get those screenshots. Still it was completely unplayable. I also ran Waveform's bufferbloat speed test, which still gave a rating of C, same as before.

I have put all the screenshots in one image.

Hey mate, I have been running into this same issue with extreme packet loss on some games and other games not connecting entirely. Despite this, connections seem fine and anything else I do - whether it be streaming movies or downloading - works alright. Did you ever figure out a solution?
