Model: TL-WA860RE
Hardware Version: V6
Firmware Version:

Connected two TL-WA865RE (not TL-WA860RE - this was the closest option in the drop down menu) wifi extenders for better range. Now laptops, gaming consoles, no longer receive internet from the original network, even when right next to the router. The devices will show up as connected to the original network, but no internet will be available. Now have to connect to the extended network from all parts in the house, even where the strength is barely there. This has actually significantly worsened the wifi connection in the house. Problem isn't present for phones or tablets.

I have disconnected one repeater but this has had no effect so far. I found two other locked threads from people with a similar problem but their issue never seemed to get resolved, so clearly this is a recurring problem with TP-link repeaters.

Hi,

Can you please look up the "Build" date of the firmware that is running on your TL-WA865RE? (something in the format "Build 231205", it should be visible on the login screen or in the "firmware update" menu)

Indeed there used to be an issue like the one you describe on other similar range extender models, but it was fixed around November of 2023.

  @woozle

I found this:

Firmware Version :
1.0.12 Build 221109 Rel.31477n (6985/7082)

As for the other thread you linked, I have opened it now, but it does not list a firmware upgrade for my model and I wasn't sure if the others are compatible.

Thanks,

  @TL_20

So your firmware version is dated 2022-11-09, which is about a year before TP-Link released fixes for the other similar models.

The firmware files for the other model numbers can't be installed on a TL-WA865RE V1.

You will have to wait for TP-Link to read your post and then provide a firmware update designed for use with the TL-WA865RE V1.
