Model: Archer C6
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.0.14 Build 20211118 rel.43110(5553)

I have one TPLINK router Archer C6. I am trying to use it as extender. I have assigned a static IP to it to be in the family network. It works OK most of the time. But sometimes (for example, the main router restarts) it behaves weird. Its IP reset to following:. Initially i have assign this to IP 192.168.1.2. I have tried working with reset the device and upgrading to latest available firmware also. But same issue persists. Please help to understand what is going wrong.

While configuring the router i have assigned a fix IP to LAN. Disabled DHCP and in System Paramters enabled 5Ghz WDS.

This is configuration when it works OK.

Try setting the Archer C6 with a static LAN IP 192.168.1.254 and test again the network stability.

The IP addresses of 169.254.X.Y subnet is given when the device can't get its IP address by the DHCP server (WDS failed, most probably because of restarting the main router).

@terziyski Thanks for your response. Looks you are right that the problem occurs when main router restarts. Setting a static LAN IP 192.168.1.254 does not help much here.

If you comeup with any other solution then please let me know.

There's nothing much you can do - when the main router restarts the WDS breaks and the reason your Windows computer is getting an auto-configuration IP address 169.254.x.y is that it can't receive an IP address from the main router DHCP server. Restarting Archer C6 too, would help re-building the WDS again.
