Model: Deco X55
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

One last go at trying to get my problems resolved.

System comprises:

1 x X60 as Main Deco plus a further:

1 x X60 V1.2.9 build 20240722

3 x X55 V1.5.5 build 20240816

1 x X50-Outdoor V1.2.5 build 20240725

see system map as above.

All products are up to date with the latest Firmware (AFAIK). The X55 have the latest Beta firmware as recommended to try to stop various Deco and connected clients showing as "offline". I removed all M5 and E4R at your request to try to solve various problems and replaced with 2 x X60 and redeploying the X55 across the house to fill in gaps.

Two basic problems:

1 - Decos are still showing as offline.

The image shows "Kitchen" as offline. This is not the only case. I regularly see one or more Decos as offline, sometimes up to three at a time. Due to the slow speed that the app refreshes at, I cannot establish if it is actually online or offline as I check a client, it works, but I refresh the app and the Deco shows as back online.

2 - X50-Outdoor not connecting to the required indoor Deco despite being locked though the "Connection Preference" setting.

The same image shows the outdoor Deco as connected to "Hot Press". There are two problems here;

A-"Hot Press" is the second furthest away Deco buried in the centre of the house. When the outdoor Deco connects to it, the signal shows as "Weak".

B-The outdoor Deco's "Connection Preference" is set to "Living Room" which is a mere 6 meters away line-of-sight and gives a "Medium" signal when it does connect.

If I power off "Hot Press" X55 the outdoor Deco connects to "Living Room"X60. (Medium Signal) All my outdoor cameras function perfectly.

I power it back on and the outdoor Deco reconnects to "Hot Press" X55 (Weak Signal) My outdoor cameras imagery is poor and stutters, no sound and impossible to PTZ.

Why?

Surely if I set a "Connection Preference', it should connect to the assigned Deco, otherwise what is the setting for?

I look forward to understanding what is going on here and when all the problems will be solved. I have invested a great deal of money in the X series of products which continue to be nothing but problems. I spend more time administrating problems with my wifi than I should, it should just be there but I find myself looking at problems almost daily.

Hi, Thank you very much for the feedback.

There is a new beta firmware for Deco X60_V3. If possible, it is also suggested to install the beta firmware here to see whether it helped with the "Offline Deco" issue:

Deco X60_V3 1.2.8_build_20240723_Beta

As for the connected signal source of Garden Deco X50-outdoor, Did all the satellite Deco units wirelessly connected into the Mesh system?

I wonder whether Deco might limit the signal source within 2 hops since due to the working pattern and protocol/regulation of Wi-Fi technology, the more wireless hops, the slower the speed would be.

Is the living room Deco far away from the main Music room Deco?

-If not too far, I think you could try to set the "living Room Deco" to connect the main Deco, then check whether the "Garden Deco" could automatically switch to "Living Room Deco".

Wait for your reply and best regards.

Yes, all Decos connect wirelessly. I cannot use Ethernet Backhaul to the outdoor Deco (who can?). I tried utilising Powerline devices but they kept dropping in and out and causing their own issues when doing so. This appeared to be something that could not be corrected as the post on the forum just went quiet, so I removed them (TL-PA7017P KIT).

Okay, I am currently testing the Connection Preferences you recommended. One thing of notice that on the last 2 days the X50-Outdoor now reports a Weak signal whereas prior to all the problems it reported a Medium signal. Neither the X50-Outdoor, nor the Living Room X60 has moved from when it reported Medium.

(I bought the X60 to replace the X55 in the Living Room as it had the better antenna array, on swapping out, the X60 gave me a Medium signal so I was happy, now I am back to the Weak signal I had with the X55 so no point in having the X60!)

As for the X60 Firmware, just to double check please:

I have X60 V3.2 currently running V1.2.9 build 20240722

you have suggested utilising Firmware for a X60 V3 V1.2.8 build 20240723?

I ask for clarification as it appears to be Firmware for a device version I do not have and a firmware version older than the one I am currently on?

I don't want to break anything by going against the usual advice from TP-Link to not install firmware on a device that the firmware is not built for.

I am hoping not to have to spend even more money on my wireless network than I have already. In my cupboard I already have 3 x Deco E4R, 3 x M5 and three sets of Powerline adapters I cannot use, I'd rather not have to add more to it!

Thanks

Hi, Thank you very much for the update.

Your Deco X60(EU) V3.2 could update the 1.2.8_build_20240723_Beta.

As for the release date, the 1.2.8_0723_Beta is newer than the official 1.2.9_build_0722 even though its version number is smaller. The build number represents its release date.

Best regards.

  @David-TP

Okay, I updated the Firmware, but overnight the app seemed to counteract that update and re-installed the 1.2.9 Firmware that was on there before.

I've reinstalled the 1.2.8 and turned off Auto Update.

The low signal from the Outdoor Deco remains.

This is all getting very messy again. Nothing works properly. I'm spending a massive amount of time messing around with firmware on products I've paid good money for.

I'm going to give TP-Link 2 weeks before I take this whole thing to a Small Claims Court to get all the money back on all the Deco and TP-Link stuff I've bought to try to get this system functioning. I believe this is enough time, I am tired of waiting for decent firmware and for wifi I can rely on. I am not a Beta tester and I don't enjoy being treated like one.

Oh, and despite using the "Connection Preference setting to connect the Living Room to the Music Room Deco, it fails to do so and constntly connects to Office

As does setting the Garden to Connect to the Living Room, which always connects to Music Room.

What is the point of a Connection Preference setting if the app ignores it. (Asked before but I never got an answer).
