I've had the AV600 extender for a while which is connected in my shed (back office). WIFI speeds at home always average around 300-500mbps but the back of the house would get a max of 20mbs which isn't terrible considering its work related/video streaming, however, it's gotten shocking lately.

Internet loses connection on a regular basis. When it is connected it's started to run so slowly that it takes a while to even load a YT video and gaming is impossible.

HELP > basically, is it TP-Links fault and should I get a replacement or do I talk to my broadband provider and tell them about the drop off?

Not super tech savvy when it comes to wifi so please let me know

Hi,

Could you please clarify the exact model number of your TP-Link extender? (should be printed on a label on the device itself)

Normaly, the term "AV600" is more associated with TP-Link's Powerline Adapters. https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/79

@woozle Hi - I've attached an image of the product I'm talking about. I can confirm after a quick google that it is a power line.

does that affect my problem? Does this differ from a wifi extender? I was recommended this product due to my issues when I bought it during covid

First of all, there is nothing your broadband provider could do about it.

Second, I highly doubt a replacement of the AV600 device would help.

Powerline adapters are not fast to begin with and are also quite susceptible to electrical interferrence.

The way Powerline works is that is establishes a network connection via a building's electrical circuit (electrical wiring). Back when you installed that AV600 there should have been a second device that came together with it in the box and that should be connected to your broadband router.

The connection being very slow and even dropping off completely from time to time is an indication that the Powerline signal is marginal.

Usually the only way to remedy this is to bring the two Powerline devices closer together, like illustrated in the sketch below.
