Model: Deco M9 Plus
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.2.11 Build 20190926 Rel. 55727

Hi everyone,

I have tried to upgrade my TP Deco M9 plus for a while but i can't get it to work.

I have tried all three options but nothing works.

The Deco app says all deco's are up to date.

I can't open it via ip addess or http://tplinkdeco.net  as the firmware is to old (I guess)

I can't get login into the upgrade tool as i am getting wrong user/password. (windows 11 Pro).

I have tried it in Win8 modus and also with admin rights.

Got someone got the golden tip to fix it? Thanks

Hi, For firmware 1.2.12, you have to use the firmware upgrade tool to update the firmware.

As for the password, it is the same as the Deco APP email login password(Your TP-link email address as the username), not the wireless password.

Wait for your reply and best regards.

Thanks for the update.

Have you tried to log out of the Deco APP, and then manually input the email and password to check again?

Wait for your reply and best regards.

Hi, Thank you very much for the update.

I consulted the engineer earlier and he explained that the upgrade tool might think you are not on the Deco M9 Plus network.

Is the laptop connected via an Ethernet cable to any of the Deco M9 Plus, or by Wi-Fi?

-It is recommended to use an Ethernet connection first.

-If there is no Ethernet port on the laptop, please make sure the laptop is connected to the Wi-Fi of Deco, disabling other network connections, such as VPN.

(You could view the IP address on the laptop to make sure the IP is assigned by Deco M9 Plus-How to find IP address on your devices.)

Wait for your reply and best regards.

Hi @David-TP,

I think I know why this doesn't work.

The ISP Modem is giving out all the ip address as the Deco's are working as access point.

Is there a way to upgrade them so i don't have to mess up my current network?

Hi, Access Point mode should still work. In AP mode, the upgrade tool could be able to scan the Deco units in the same network unless there is further access control or other advanced settings on the host router. You could still try to connect the PC directly via an Ethernet cable to Deco.

There is another suggestion if you want to have a try:

The upgrade tool is the local upgrade and it doesn't require internet service.

You could download the latest 1.6.3 bin file from the internet first, then unplug Deco M9 Plus from the internet.

Then connect the laptop to the Wi-Fi of Deco again(The WiFi has no internet service) and re-open the upgrade tool.

Thank you very much for your time and patience.

Wait for your reply and best regards.

@David-TP Hi David, Sorry for the late reply.

I have tried your recommondation but it doesn't work.

I have deleted one of the m9+ from the network.

I have created a new network with just one m9.

I have configured it as Wifi Router. Gateway ip address 192.168.68.1

No internet connected and i also didn't get an ip address from the M9.

- added it manually (192.168.68.100) but m9 couldn't be pinged.

When i connected the internet i got an ip address and M9 could be pinged.

Upgrade tool didn't work. Wrong User ID/password.

Chrome with ip address http(s)://192.168.68.1 didn't work.

Telnet to 192.168.68.1:22 could connect but couldn't login with my TP id.

So, i am still back to square one.
