Model: TL-SG105
Hardware Version: V7
Firmware Version:

The specification of the SG105 shows it has IGMP snooping. If I check I see it does filter multicast traffic but I am curious how will this works. When many devices will send an IGMP join message will it be able to process them all or is the processing in a resource limited processor which will miss some of these join messages.

You can see the SG-105 performance parameters in its data sheet - here.

  @terziyski Thank you for your reply.

The datasheet however does not specify how many IGMP join messages per second the switch can handle. My experience with other IGMPsnopping switches showed this is reather low like 8/s which can cause issues if you have multiple devices joining multiple multicast groups at once. If the switch misses the join message it will not forward the multicast packets.

This is the only public data that can be seen for technical parameters of the switches.

I'm using few of these and never had any issue with multicast traffic.

Thanks, just curious if somebody else has real world experiences

Hi, you could refer to the reply here and I think the user here has given a better explanation:

(and it is also about TL-SG105)

Thank you very much and best regards.

  @David-TP

Thank you these problems of IGMP snooping are known. In the mean time I found the TP-SG105 has the Realtek RTL8387S inside which seems to support IGMP-snooping in HW. The problem I explained would then not exists and the performance on multicast forwarding to only the ports which have receivers for the multicast address would work as with unicast traffic (MAC learning) I will do some testing.
