Model: TL-WA1201
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.10.33 Build 240115 Rel.65252n(4555)

We got Fiber (finally) and bought a Router from "Deutsche Telekom" called "Digitalisierungsbox Premium 2". We have 2 locations (1 = house, 2 = company). Router is located in the house. House and Company are connected via LAN. I bought two TL-WA1201:

My configuration:

AP House:

SSID 1 - Private

SSID 2 - PrivateGuests

AP Company:

SSID 1 - Private

SSID 2 - PrivateGuests

SSID 3 - CompanyCustomers

Everything worked like a charm until I checked on the IP adresses. No matter the SSID everyone is having the same subnet. Which means customers and guests can see other devices on the network. I added the VLAN configuration:

My configuration:

AP House:

SSID 1 - Private - VLAN 1

SSID 2 - PrivateGuests - VLAN 20

AP Company:

SSID 1 - Private - VLAN 1

SSID 2 - PrivateGuests - VLAN 20

SSID 3 - CompanyCustomers - VLAN 30

SSID 1 works fine. I get 192.168.2.x IP adress and I have access to my network + internet.

Reading this AP is multiSSID capable using VLANs, I assumed based on your SSID you having different IP adresses. This seems not to be the case. Since VLAN is activated SSID 2 and 3 is gettting 169.254.x..

The router does not have VLAN functionality.

TL-WA1201 is just an access point, it doesn't have any routing capabilities.

To be able to use TL-WA1201 in multi-SSID mode you need a router that is VLAN capable.

The Router itself does not support VLANs. Would it be enough to put ROUTER -> VLAN SWITCH -> AP Because I have a VLAN Switch (TL-SG1016PE) available.

I doubt that, but you could test and check if it will work in your case.

Here's guide on how to configure VLANs on your easysmart switch.

I tried this with

VLAN ID VLAN Name Member Ports Tagged Ports Untagged Ports Delete
1 Private 1-16 7,15 1-6,8-14,16
20 PrivateGuest 7,15 7,15
30 CompanyCustomer 7,15 7,15

Port 15 is where the Switch is connected to my Router.

Port 7 is there the AP is connected to my switch.

No matter which SSID I always get the 169.254.x.x address.

Yep, that's what I thought it will happen. For this setup you'll need a VLAN capable router like this one.

Thank you for your quick replies. We took the Telekom Trash Router because it has an integraded Telephone System which has all features we need now and in the future. I have to see if the Trashbox will work if we use a different router before. But I have in mind that using the Trashbox without it's routing funktion will automatically disable all telephone functionality...I guess I have to do some more research.

For that matter it's probably the best to consult with your ISP before take an action changing the router.
