Hardware Version: V6
Firmware Version:

I am using Windows 8.1 64-bit updated untill last official update. I use HP laptop. The built in WiFi stopped working. I used two USB nano WiFi adapters from two different brands and they were recognized when plugged in the USB port, but those nano adapters received very weak signal because the router is in the other room. I bought TP-Link TL-WN822N V6 adapter. When I plug it in the any USB port on the HP laptop it is not recognized. The green light on it doesn't work. I downloaded the official drivers. On the official site says that drivers are the same for V5 and V6. But when I start "Setup.exe" it can not find the TP-Link adapter.

Is it maybe some issue with Windows 8.1?

Maybe the TP-Link adapter has some issue. Should I use warranty and have it replaced in the local store?

Any advice from the community would be helpfull.

  @woozle

No sound when I plug in the TP-Link USB adapter and it doesn't show up as unknown device.

I tried on my friends laptop, Windows 10 22H2 64-bit. TP-Link is recognized when plugged in. No need for driver installation and the green light blinks. It works without any problems.

So it is some issue with Windows 8.1

Hi,

When you plug the TL-WN822N into any USB port of your HP laptop, can you hear the usual sound (short melody) that Windows 8.1 plays when a device is being detected?

Does any sort of "unknown device" or device with a question mark show up in the Device Manager of Windows after you've inserted the TL-WN822N?
