Model: TL-WA854RE
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

 I have an 854RE extending WiFi from an 850RE which Hardwired in Access point mode, as soon as the 854RE is powered up my network becomes unstable. Affecting Windows connected devices even on my Ethernet. (Phones and smart home stuff are unaffected)

Tech support suggested secondary DNS values in my C7 Router 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4 which seem to fix it for a few days.

But the problem is back. In another thread somone suggested using a non TP Link device but this seems an extrem fix, any other Ideas?

To be clear..

It was OK extending the Main WiFi directly from the Router (but the signal was weak hence the change)

the problems started with a WiFi connection to the 850 which was connected to the main WiFi
And persisted when I connected the 850 in Access point mode.

So its nothing to do with Acess point mode.

  @SteveGG

Hi, can I have the hardware and firmware version of the 854RE?

I saw you mentioned that only Ethernet-connected Windows devices were unstable, the mobile devices are fine. Did you use the same Wi-Fi SSID on 854RE as Archer C7?

When the Windows devices are unstable, could you please help me check whether they can still get valid IP addresses but just no internet service?

Thank you very much and best regards.

  @David-TP

Main network SSDID is NEWSOFT_NETWORK,

The 850RE (wired to ethernet) Transmits as NEWSOFT_NETWORK_2.

The 854 is set to main Network = NEWSOFT_NETWORK_2

It Transmits as NEWSOFT_NETWORK_3

Re IP Address, not sure how to find this

Computers report no internet connection, VPN is unable to establish a connection and also not sure if this helps but management page of my NAS which has a local fixed address cannot be opened, The NAS itself is displaying the usual lights so appears to be communicating as normal.

The Archers Management page cannot be opened.  My network is something like this the Smart home devices are not shown The seem unaffected.

Running a network diagnostic in Windows usually says it cannot find a problem.

Hi, Thank you very much for the further update.

You could try to install the beta firmware here on the TL-WA854RE_V4 to see whether it made any difference:

https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/628396

And if you set TL-WA854RE v4 into Access Point mode and wire to the second TL-SG105, will you still have the same issue?

By the way,  I haven't seen any mobile devices in the diagram that are conneced to the TL-WA854RE V4, is there any specific reason that you want to wirelessly connect it to the TL-WA850RE?

Best regards.

Hi

Re the diagram,

Yes the mobile devices could be connecting to any of the extenders or to the main Network,  Depending on where they are being used, Shown like this for simplicity and because i don't know the correct way to indicate it on a network diagram blush

  @David-TP

Oddly, for the last 3 days there have been no problems. On the morning of the 29th I had a total internet connection failure on power up which resulted in no response from my Smart radiator valves.  I did a reset and everything has worked since.

I won't change anything unless the problem comes back!

I have the C7 emailing me it's system log at 6am so I can see what happens at power up (4am),  have only been doing this since the problem disappeared, and I see nothing suspect in it!

Cheers

  @David-TP

Hi after several weeks of working OK, see my previous posts, the problem came back again. Powering down the same extender fixes it.

This was just affecting Ethernet connected PCs again.

This is a part of the System log up to the point where the extender was turned off and the Device that was failing to connect (other than for split seconds) was allocated an IP 171 (range starts at 100)

My C7 is V2 hardware and cannot be updated to the suggested version.

Things were getting worse and worse over the past few days to the point where no ethernet connected devices were working,  so I did a full reinstall of the firmware 3.15.3 Build 180305 Rel.51282n and everything else was fine after this yesterday, and was today but i had not checked these devices!

I  will try the Beta firmware in the Extender now. Not sure if I know how to install it will see if I can figure it out?

But does this log segment give any clues?

FYI after installing the Beta firmware it worked, until the next router power up then failed again, unplugged now. Problems gone.
