My printer cannot connect to TL-WA860RE but it can connect to main router with no issues at all.
The printer finds the extended network but when printer setup tries to connect to is, it fails.

Since TL-WA860RE shared the same wireless password and security with the main router, basically I can't think why it might fail to connect 860RE.
But you could refer to the following suggestions to see whether they helped:
1. check whether you might configure Access Control(under Settings>Advanced settings>Access Control) on the 860RE.
2. It is also suggested to check the Access Control settings on the main router since the MAC address of the printer might change when 860RE worked as the DHCP proxy.
