4G LTE modem (using SIM card) using ridiculous amounts of data
We purchased a SIM-card enabled modem so that we can have wifi to work from home in a remote village. With only a single phone connected and only streaming photos from the cloud and a couple short videos, the data usage was ~700MB in less than an hour. We woke up the next morning to find the data usage was at 4 GB! Now, we have been working with 2 connected laptops (to work from home) and the data usage is ~2 GB per hour (we haven't even had ny video calls yet, this is just simple web browsing). How is this possible? My guess is that this might be related to how SIM card enabled modems work? (I've only seen this problem pop up on forums for these types of modems, but no one seems to have answers). We bought a 100 GB SIM card, which should be more than enough for our two week stay, but now it's looking like it might not even last half that amount.
Main point-- there is no way we are actually using this much data... something is not functioning properly.
