Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.12

Hello,

I just recently purchased an AX1800 wifi 6 router with onemesh support. I needed one access point on the opposite corner of my home so I purchased an AX1500 Wifi 6 Extender. Well low and behold it says "Repeater" in the manual... I wanted to purchase an extender NOT a repeater... Anyways so I looked into the settings and it has AP mode which does allow ethernet backhaul which is what an extender is. Well for whatever reason when in AP mode it does not support OneMesh??? I don't understand how it is okay to advertise a repeater as an extender with onemesh support if it can only either onemesh in wireless mode but not when ethernet is plugged in. Is there another device that is compatible with this or am I missing something???

I only need one additional access point not multiple to fully cover my home.

Please help, thank you.

OneMesh doesn't support an ethernet backhaul - check OneMesh FAQ - Q5/A5.

OneMesh can't be used when the device is in AP mode - same FAQ - Q8/A8.

There's another mesh technology - EasyMesh which will allow an ethernet backhaul eventually - check the list of supported devices.

Here's a thread which includes the models that already have an ethernet backhaul implemented.

Awesome based on https://www.tp-link.com/us/easymesh/product-list/ my router and my extender will eventually support easymesh. Is there an ETA on this? I assume then if easymesh is supported ethernet backhaul will be allowed on my current extender?

Nobody can give an ETA for this. You have to keep an eye on the new FW releases for your devices and updates on the threads I pointed.
