I don’t understand why this was moved to the “new feature” thread. A kill switch is a “nice-to-have,” but blocking internet access when the VPN connection drops is already possible through routing and firewall rules. The real issue is that the TP-Link ER605 router lacks a built-in kill switch, and worse, its firewall and routing rules take 15 to 20 seconds to activate after the VPN disconnects. This delay leaves your local IP exposed, creating a significant security risk. It’s concerning that your company has not prioritized fixing this issue, as it directly impacts security. A colleague of yours recently asked about similar products that offer this feature: The Cudy R700 VPN router (Cudy's gigabit router similar to ER605) includes a built-in kill switch. If the VPN connection drops, the router immediately blocks internet access until the VPN reconnects, preventing any data leaks. This feature can be enabled in the router's settings under the VPN section (also, the Cudy AX3000 has this feature).

Come on TP! Why are you dragging your feet implementing this extremely important feature? Currently using the Archer AX72 Pro but will have no choice but to return and look elsewhere to stay protected. As a lifelong TP user it hurts me to say that.

I am writing to formally request the addition of a VPN kill switch feature for the TP-Link BE550 router series. I currently own three BE550 units and have recently purchased an additional fifteen for deployment across my Airbnb properties. The VPN kill switch is a critical feature for my business operations. It ensures that if the VPN connection drops for any reason, all internet traffic is immediately blocked until the VPN is restored. This is essential for maintaining the privacy and security of my guests, as well as for complying with privacy standards and protecting sensitive data. Currently, the absence of a VPN kill switch exposes my network to potential data leaks if the VPN connection fails. This is a significant concern, especially in a hospitality environment where guest privacy is paramount.
