Model: Deco PX50
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.3 Build 20230420 Rel. 77020

I have two PX50 units. Upstairs, I have a home server connected to the satellite PX50 via ethernet that can deliver gigabit speeds to a laptop connected over 5GHz wifi. Downstairs, I have a desktop PC connected to the main PX50 via ethernet that has a much slow connection to the home server, at about 300mbits/sec. My two PX50 units are connected via PLC + 2.4GHz + 5GHz. Before I bought the PX50 units, I was able to achieve gigabit speeds from my desktop to my home server using a pair of TP-Link TL-PA4010KIT. Why is the connection between the two PX50 units so slow?

I don't know how to find the the hardware version so I selected V1.

@RobinW, Hi welcome to the community.

For Deco PX50, its powerline rate is G.hn powerline 1500m/s, with an internal transfer speed of 300m/s, and the transfer efficiency is about 20%. (the normally expected HomePlug AV powerline is about 30%). It might need to be higher. But for TL-PA4010kit, since they have 100m/s fast Ethernet ports, I don't think they could achieve 1G/s transfer speed.

Could you please help me check some details:

1. What's the distance between these two PX50s? how many walls/doors/rooms are in between?

2. For testing purposes, if plugging two PX50s in the same room, would the transfer speed get much better?

Thank you very much.

Best regards.

@David-TP Thank you for your reply.

My mistake, I used to have two TL-PA4010kit units before upgrading to two TL-PA7010 units, at which point I could achieve close to gigabit powerline speeds from one end of the house to the other, from the home server to the PC. Later, I swapped them out for Deco PX50 units to get wifi too, but that's when the issues started.

Could you clarify, are you saying the PX50 models are only capable of real-world transfer speeds of 300Mbps?

Either way, here are the details and tests you requested.

The distance is less than 15 meters between the PX50 units, through 4 walls. Speed when in these positions is up to 300Mbps, but recently closer to 150Mbps.

When I put both units in the same room, one meter apart, and connect one to the PC and one to the home server via ethernet cables, the speed is the same - maximum of 300Mbps.

When I connect both the home server AND the PC to the same, main PX50, I get 1000Mbps, which is the maximum the PC and home server can handle.

This was all done through the same ethernet cables. The PC and home server don't have wifi.

From these tests, it appears to me that the PX50 units are communicating with each other very slowly, regardless of proximity.

Is there anything else I could try?

Many thanks

Robin

@RobinW When you connected both Decos in the same room, how do you ensure that they have not connected with Wi-Fi, instead of PLC?

@Nahemoth I don’t think I can. Not in the app anyway, which is a shame because that would help with troubleshooting. When I switch on the Decos, the app always says they are connected via a combination of PLC, 2.4GHz wifi and 5GHz wifi.
