Model: Archer AX1500
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

Good afternoon.

I received my Archer AX1500 yesterday to improve my shoddy TalkTalk connection in our 19th century house. However after setting it up according to the intructions, the device fails to receive connection (orange light) and there appears to be no IP address used when logging into the setup.

I'm using Default MAC address and Dynamic IP. Also using a relatively new cable from one of my powerline adapters as it's longer than the one provided.

The connections seem sturdy, I've double checked and I've restarted the router several times and plugged them in according to the instructions, to no avail.

Is this a problem with my ISP? Or is there something I'm doing wrong here?

Hi,

Have you connected the Archer AX1500's blue "WAN" port via cable to one of the LAN Ethernet ports of the TalkTalk router (or "hub")?

Then that's the reason why the AX1500 doesn't obtain an IP address for its Internet connection.

If you have the TalkTalk hub that looks like a book standing upright on its long side, then you need to plug the cable inside one of the four yellow "Ethernet" ports.

This seemed to help, thanks! The light is green now. However the connection is very unstable. It'll connect and say I've got a full bar of signal and then it will just disconnect :/

Are you saying the (wireless) connection became unstable after you've moved the cable from the WAN port to one of the Ethernet ports?

Yes, despite it connecting it often drops out. I updated the firmware and checked the ethernet cable. But when playing a game it's almsot impossible to go a minute without the ping fluctuating or connection dropping completely

How long is that cable you took from one of your Powerline adapters actually?

In case you've left the Wi-Fi signals from the TalkTalk hub switched on, then you should place the AX1500 router a reasonable distance away from the TalkTalk hub, to prevent the Wi-Fi signals from interfering with each other. (especially if both Wi-Fi routers were to broadcast on the same frequencies)

The cable is about a meter long and the TPLink router is elevated on a table near the modem. Weirdly, connecting to the modem is way more consistent than the new TPLink router

Hi,

A meter is extremely close. That could certainly lead to problems. I suggest you switch the Wi-Fi of the TalkTalk hub off and then check again how the AX1500 behaves.

Hiya, I'll try a longer cable, however I think turning the Talktalk modem off will likely result in the AX1500 losing connection altogether wont it? What would I be looking out for? Thanks for the help btw, as a side note. Massively appreciated!
