Simple question. How do I safely eject the device from my laptop when not in use, do I simply remove it and plug it again when ready to use again?

  @Maurice1950 Thank you David. I should have tried a little harder rather than seeking help for something which wasn't all that difficult. I have windows 10 and all had to do was go to the task bar and get confirmation of ejection via the little arrow on the right. I use it all the time with my external hard drives. Thanks for your time and trouble anyway. yes

Yes, or you could just leave it plugged in and disenable the wireless adapter when not in use, such as the instruction mentioned here:
