Hey,

I am having the same issue as many before me.

I have the Archer AX21 connected to fiber modem giving 280 Mbps download and 100 Mbps upload connected to 5Ghz.

I also have the rang extender RE500X connected to the router and when I am connected to the extender I am getting about HALF of what I am getting from the router on download speed, 130 Mbps download and 90 Mbps upload connected to 5Ghz. I tested the settings using OneMesh and individual networks, but the results are the same. Sably the return window for the RE500X has passed and now I have a useless extender, does anyone knows if TP-link are taking resposibility for these issues? I bought the extender less than a year ago.

  @StamStamRE500X

Hi, welcome to the community.

Could you please help me check the following details:

1. How far from the RE500x to Archer AX21?

2. Could you please help me check the Ethernet speed from RE500x as well?

3. Would you mind helping me run a simple test:

  • unplug RE500x and stand in the same place.
  • test the current speed when the smartphone is connected to Archer AX21.

At the same time, I would like to follow up on your case via email, and please check whether you could get an email from us later.

Best regards.

  @David-TP

Hey, David

I was away and couldn't perform the test until now.

1. The RE500x is about 3 meters from the Archer AX21 with one 10cm wall between.

2. The internet speed test with Ethernet connected is 299/100.

3. This is when I am standing with my laptop next to the RE500x, 214/100.

This is when I am standing next to where the RE500x was but now it is disconnected and I am connected to the Archer AX21, 293/100.

We can see that there is a major problem with the wifi and the internet slow's exponentially with the distance from the RE500X. My internet connection is 300/100.

I hope this information can be useful.

Best regards

  @StamStamRE500X

Thank you very much for your feedback.

Actually, I think RE500X is well-behaved under the current situation. The main purpose of an Extender is to enhance the wireless signal strength so that the clients could maintain a stronger and more stable connection. You might see on the first post, the devices connected to RE500x have a higher 4-bar wireless signal than that from the main router. But using an extender is like adding one more network proxy between the end devices and router at the expense of reducing internet speed. OneMesh Technology could reduce the roaming time and delay between the WiFi of the router and the extender, but it did not fix the speed loss between these two networks.

Since without RE500X, the device could get almost the same speed from the main router, even higher, the current spot does not need an extender to enhance the wireless signal. The overlapping wireless networks could also bring wireless interference and reduce the speed. You could try to relocate RE500x, 5-6 meters from AX21 in open sight.

And It is also suggested to test on different devices. RE500x and Archer AX21 both support up to 1200m/s link speed on 5ghz while the link speed on the test laptop, is 216m/s from Archer AX21 and 144 from RE500x. I think the wireless adapter of the laptop also limited the internet speed a little bit.

Best regards.

Wish you a happy new year.
