Model: Deco X55
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.0.6

I have problems with Deco in default mode -- inability to turn off DHCP for one.

Invisibility of most connected clients in App so therefore inability to use time based controls or anything.

So I switched to access point mode and do my own management using opnsense.

Discovered the firmware still has a "smart DHCP" feature which cannot be disabled!! It threatens to turn itself on and hand out dumb default gateways to my entire network at any point in time.

In addition the logs are full of errors. Giving me no confidence in the security of the product.

(just one tiny example)

Thu Nov 3 14:56:05 2022 daemon.err uhttpd[5555]: iptables: No chain/target/match by that name.

Thu Nov 3 14:56:05 2022 daemon.err uhttpd[5555]: iptables v1.4.21: Couldn't load target `domain_login_rule':No such file or directory

Thu Nov 3 14:56:05 2022 daemon.err uhttpd[5555]:

Thu Nov 3 14:56:05 2022 daemon.err uhttpd[5555]: Try `iptables -h' or 'iptables --help' for more information.

Thu Nov 3 14:56:05 2022 daemon.err uhttpd[5555]: iptables: No chain/target/match by that name.

Thu Nov 3 14:56:05 2022 daemon.err uhttpd[5555]: iptables: No chain/target/match by that name.

Thu Nov 3 14:56:05 2022 user.emerg : tp215,22[951]:

So my question is:

* why can't I see all connected clients from the App

* why is firmware 1.0.6 the latest when it is old.

* why can't I disanle DHCP in access point mode

* why are the logs full of errors that are beyond my control. This is the simplest possible config out of the box...

Under normal circumstances in common home network configuration Deco will not enable DHCP when running in AP mode. If DHCP service gets enabled, usually it is a sign that something might not be right with the home network.

There is beta firmware 1.1.0 for X55 that allows to disable DHCP in AP mode: https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/581552

You only need to install it on Main Deco

> why can't I see all connected clients from the App

Common cases:

1) You have devices with static IP addresses configured on them;

2) Devices are not connected to Deco mesh, but directly to the router;

3) Devices with MAC address randomization enabled, appearing as different devices each time they connect;

4) Deco firmware bug.

If it is Deco firmware bug, upgrading to 1.1.0 might fix that.

Ignore them.
