VPN client on AX55 - slow performance
Hi all
I just bought this router to use the vpn function for my Xbox.
when using OpenVPN on the router and performing a speed test (via iPhone) I get about 10Mbps down. When I use the vpn app on my phone I get a lot greater.
is there any way to configure the router to get better throughput on vpn or do I need another router?
this router has a dual core and the AX20 has quad core so is that one better?
also considering sending this back and getting an ASUS RT-AX86U

I can connect to the VPN (open vpn) but my speed is too slow unfortunately. From 30Mbps it drops to 10!
@nasosto Even with WireGuard VPN the speed is still capped at 10Mbps?
What is the name of the OpenVPN server that you are connecting to? As I can see from other posts, some of our community customers can get 25Mbps when using WireGuard VPN on the AX55, you can also check it from the below posts:

@Kevin_Z my router is connected to GX Brand home gateway unit modem through fiber patch cord before connecting to my ax55 through lan cable
wan ip is public
before I didn't modify any dns after
even though I changed primary dns in dhcp server to 8.8.8.8 my speed didn't improve
my dns server in computer is 192.168.0.1
min router I modified to 8.8.8.8
Hi @Saliv, thanks for getting back.
So I want to make sure again if the issue is the VPN Client speed is not as good as expected, or you cannot connect to the SurShark VPN server.
You may change the DNS server on the computer to obtain the DNS server address automatically instead of 192.168.0.1, then confirm again if you can connect to the SurfShark VPN server.
hey @Kevin_Z
yeah I can connect to both open vpn and wiregaurd but Openvpn speed is 6mbps and wiregaurd is not even opening any web page
@Saliv If that is the case, I would like to have a specialist look into the issue that you are experiencing via email. Please check your registered email in the community and follow up with our engineers directly.

again and again the same meaningless questions. JUST FIX THE PROBLEM or just simply reply "the problem CANNOT be fixed", which is the most honest reply.
@ to all the others, just buy a router from GL.iNet.
@dinfo I actually don't understand why you are complaining again and again if you have already bought another router from GL.iNet and have already got the desired speed you like. More importantly, I have already escalated your case to the support engineers and as far as I can confirm, they have already helped with the WireGuard VPN Client configuration issue that you reported a month ago.
If I misunderstand the situation, and you do have some further concerns, please discuss the issue with the engineers directly, I believe they will try their best to help.

I am complaining again and again because I still own the AX55 and I want to use the VPN client function. The issue has been discussed with the technicians and the result was that the low speed problem is caused; by router's CPU architecture. Surprisingly, the AX20 run perfectly since its CPU architecture is different from AX55.
Anyway, as a final user, I cannot understand why AX20 works fine and AX55 does NOT. It's not my business to understand. A final user want the router to function properly. So, PLEASE FIX THE PROBLEM, probably by developing a new firmware.

@Kevin_Z
I will write exactly the same:
"So, PLEASE FIX THE PROBLEM, probably by developing a new firmware".
If this can't be done, please give an order to change it to AX20.

Hello @Alpha_numbers @charly.be @DiskCrasher @dinfo @nasosto
Thank you very much for the detailed feedback in regard to the WireGuard VPN Client speed issue you are experiencing.
I'm excited to inform you that our developers provided a new beta firmware for AX55, which is expected to improve the WireGuard VPN performance. I've just updated the download link in my original post.
Please you may install this new beta version on your AX55 to observe and confirm if it can give you a better connectivity speed when using the WireGuard VPN.

Hello.
You did what you had to, but I'm unlucky. My provider PIA vpn does not have configuration files for widreguard, it only has for open vpn. But with open vpn my speed drops dramatically. Do you know if I can find PIA configuration files for widreguard somewhere? or maybe there will be some firmware in the future that improves the speed with open vpn?
Thank you.

@nasosto When searching on Google, it seems that PIA VPN also supports WireGuard.
You may try to contact PIN VPN support to see if they can help with the WireGuard protocol or service.

Yes, PIA supports WireGuard but they don't have or don't provide configuration files. I have already contacted PIA customer support.
