AX50 & Virgin HUB 3
Hi
Purchased AX50 after reviews that it made a good companion to a Virgin hub3 in modem mode.
Connected it all up as per instructions, Hub3 still in router mode, AX50 plugged into Hub3 port 1 is it should be. All ok.
Connected wifi to AX50, ran ookla speedtest, 90Mbps
Connected to Hub3, ran speedtest, 360Mbps (as it normally is)
Thought it may be that Hub3 was still in router mode so flipped to Modem mode. No connectivity to AX50.
Hub3 light was either red (bad) or magenta (good) - can't tell the difference ! AX50 light RHS was amber I think
Didn't have internet so couldn't google for anything at the time.
Had to flip back to router mode, which took a very long time 192.168.0.1 was redirecting to 192.168.1.1
Thooughts welcomed
Thanks

You have two options for configuring these devices to work together:
1.VM Hub3 in router mode and AX50 in AP mode (Case 1) - that's recommended scenario.
2.VM Hub3 in modem mode and AX50 in router mode.
You should check which one is more comfortable for you.

@terziyski thanks for the reply
I'm sick of the limitations of the hub3 router so my initial thoughts were modem mode for hub and router mode for AX50. dyndns and openvpn setup on AX50, and the enhanced wireless speed/range I should hopefully get.
=> disclaimer - I know this is probably the wrong forum for this q :) - with AX50 powered off. When hub3 is in modem mode, it shows red at front (should be magenta apparently) but if I log into the hub it states "internet up". However I can only log into the hub if I set my laptop to static in the same range, ie 192.168.100.x .......... and have no external connectivity ... can ping 192.168.100.1 but nothing else.
If I were to go router & AP I would be exposing hub3 router limitations again right ?
I have tried all sorts of powercycles and factory resets and dont seem to be getting anwywhere. Waiting a call back from Virgin in case it is a Hub issue but not holding my breath

Yes, that's correct.
If you want to have AX50 as your main router then setting VM Hub 3 in modem mode is necessary to avoid the double NAT in your network:

When VM Hub3 is in modem mode, the AX50 WAN port should be set as Dynamic IP and then AX50 should receive your public IP address on its WAN (Internet) port.

Th guide helped and I finally got it working. Very disappointed though. Wireless downloads seem significantly slower than before (now @ 200-250, possibly heavy traffic so we'll see next couple of days) but wired - joke ! Wired downloads to sole machine network running around 90Mb - I was seeing @ 320-400 before !
Cables checked and swapped, firmware updated,

Go through this thread and make sure that the ethernet negotiation speed between AX50 and your computer is correct.
If the ethernet port is negotiating 100mbps that's the reason for the slow wired downloads.
