Problems with buffering

Model: Archer C7
Hardware Version: V5
Firmware Version: 1.0.16

I have a Sky Q modem - 2 LAN ports.  One is connected to my Sky Q TV box, the other to my Archer C7.

I then have connected to my C7 - Samsung TV, Hive box, TP-LINK through the home wiring to my Synology DS220+ server.

The issue I am having is when I play video on my TV, streamed from the DS220+, using either Plex or another app, my video is buffering a lot.  I know I am running it through a TP-Link, but I am still getting 40Mbps speed, so speed shouldn't be an issue.

Am I missing something (quite probable - I am not massively technically minded!)?

Any and all help is appreciated.

You may check the negotiated ethernet port speed of your C7 here:

to be sure that the C7 port speed corresponds to the maximum capacity of connected devices.

You can also check the wireless devices connected speed for the same reason.

For example on a Windows laptop:

Archer C7 is a gigabit device and speeds of 40mbps are too low for its capacity.

thank you. My speed looks good on those settings you mentioned. Connected to LAN1

so all looks good on the side of the C7 - maybe an issue not related to the router?

If you're streaming from DS220+ (LAN1 port ? -1000mbps) to your TV (LAN3 port - 100mbps) then there's your bottleneck - 100mbps.

If you connect your TV via wireless to C7 (via 5GHz band) instead via LAN3 port it may result in faster speeds.

I am not sure about LAN 2 port - your Hive box - is 10 mbps normal speed for that device ? You have to check that as well.

Thanks so much I really appreciate this help! I’ll try the tv on wireless. I figured wired was always better?

It is, but in your particular case LAN3 port is 100mbps (because of the TV) while C7 on its 5GHz wireless band can handle 1300mbps theoretically (650mbps in reality) - that would make a difference.

@terziyski my speed test is over 50Mbps, I am starting to think it is something to do with the TPLINK extender, so my next step I think is to connect it directly and test that?

By TP-Link extender do you mean the Archer C7 or you have an additional wireless range extender.

You're connecting your TV to the C7 wireless network right, not the Sky Q mdoem ?

Describe all home network devices that you have in your infrastructure.
