Multiple routers as AP on different subnet
Multiple routers as AP on different subnet
Hello
i have two subnet on my home network.
192.168.10.x is my personal subnet, and 192.168.1.x is for the two rental appartments in the first floor.
As main router i use a Edgerouter.
the tp-link is setup as accesspoint with static ip, and dhcp turned off. Gateway is the main router.
everhing working, but my problem is accessing one of them. I Get error 404 when trying access the gui..
i can access the other as normal... They run the same firmware.
what can cause them to behave different?

You didn't mention from which network you are trying to access the APs. A detailed description of your network infrastructire would be helpful.
For example, If you are connected to the 192.168.10.0/24 and can't access the AP in 192.168.1.0/24 then you have to modify your router configuration (adding a static route to the other network for example).
And vice versa, if you're connected to the 192.168.1.0/24 and can't access the AP in 192.168.10.0/24 the same should be done.
In general, if you want to test the access to the WebGUI of an AP from any of the networks, you should do a ping test to its IP address and observe if you can receive replies.
That will show if the neccessary static routes (or firewall rules) are in place in your router.

@terziyski Thanks for answering.
My network is build up like this:
Edgerouter as main router with two vlans. One for subnet 192.168.10.X that is "my" network, and the other vlan/subnet for rental appartment.
When i am conneted to my network 192.168.10.X i can access ONE og TWO accesspoint on subnet 192.168.1.X
Accesspoint 1 has ip: 192.168.1.5, Accesspoint 2 has ip: 192.168.1.10
So.. I can connect to 192.168.1.5 from my network (192.168.10.X) without problems. When i try access AP2 on 192.168.1.10 i get the 403 Forbidden error.
Wiring is from my edgerouter, to basement, into a tp-link switch, then one cable to each accesspoint. The switch is a unmanaged one..
So there is nothing wrong with my filewall rules or routes..
edit: I can ping 192.168.1.10 when im connected to my subnet 192.168.10.X..
The firewall rule allows me to access this subnet. Subnet 192.168.1.X is not allowed to access 192.168.10.X :)

In your first post you mentioned Error 404 which is 'Not Found". Thta's why I suggested a routing problem.
Now Error 403 is different matter - " This status is similar to 401
, but in this case, re-authenticating will make no difference. The access is permanently forbidden and tied to the application logic, such as insufficient rights to a resource. "
When you're connected to the rental subnet 192.168.0.1/24 (for example to AP1) do you have proper WebGUII access to the AP2 - 192.168.1.10 ?
Are the passwords for WeGUI access to AP1 and AP2 the same ? Have you tried to clear your browser cach or use a browser Private window to open WebGUI on AP 2 ?

So when you're on rental VLAN there's no problem with accessing both APs WebGUI, but when you're on your personal VLAN you receive Error 403 only on AP2.
Their both LAN networks have been configured the same way (only different IP addresses), have the same WebGUI password and their LAN IP gateway is the same (probably 192.168.1.1 ?).
I suspect something wrong with your router configuration in that case. Wha's your firewall rule for accessing 192.168.1.0/24 ?

Are these devices with the same FW and HW version ? If not update the FW and test.
HW version is on the bottom sticker.
I would assume that they are fine because of the fact that when on the same VLAN they are both properly accessible.
Are they cabled the same way - from the switch port to the their WAN port ?

@Stiols all the same version, and wired the same. not using WAN when they are in accesspoint mode. connected to LAN1
