Model: Archer AX1500
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.5 Build 20201230 Rel. 40465(5553)

I have TP LINK AX 1500 in my house and one day I enabled 5GHz mode to only work with WiFi 6 (ax) protocol and also renamed it so I can differentiate between 5GHz and 2.4GHz SSID. And out of curiosity I open WiFi setting on my iPhone 6s (note that iPhone 6s doesnt support ax and the highest it goes only to ac protocol) to see whether or not my iPhone would detect WiFi 6 signal and I was surprised that my iPhone 6s not only can see my 5GHz ax signal but also can connect to it. What happened? Does TPLINK AX 1500 mix between WiFi 5 and WiFi 6 signal? but I'm pretty sure that on my router settings I set 5GHz to only work on ax mode or is there some hidden settings I dont know about? I cant yet verify the signal on my iPhone is indeed ax or ac signal because iPhone doesnt tell you which wireless protocol it connected to.

Does anyone have the same problem?

@crispybacon

There is only one place to set the mode for 5 GHz, no hidden settings.

If the "Mode" is set to "802.11ax only", but non-AX-capable devices can still successfully connect, then this might be a bug in the router's firmware.

@crispybacon  Just to confirm, is the AX1500 working as the main router or as an access point? Is it the only 802.11ax network that your iPhone 6s connects to? As woozle already mentioned, this should not happen. Ensure you save the 5G settings successfully by rebooting the router, then check again to see if you can still connect to it.

BTW, what is the iOS version of the iPhone 6s?

@woozle I thought it might be a bug in the firmware or something too, but if it's really a bug TPLINK should update the firmware

@Kevin_Z I set my AX1500 as router and yes it's my only ax router in the house. Well I never really rebooted when I change the setting, I just clicked "Save" and there it was. I'll try and bring you update

EDIT: change the settings and then restarted. my iPhone still can connect to it. my iPhone run iOS 14.5

Did you disconnect from the network before you restart the router? Please remove the profile on the iPhone 6s first, then save the 802.11ax only and restart the router, try to connect to the 5G network again on the iPhone 6s.
