Model: Archer AX20
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

Hi all

I have just received this from Amazon UK.  I have read that there are 3 versions and a bit disappointed Amazon has sold me the V1.   I haven't read to many bad reports about the AX20 so was wondering if I should return to Amazon and try and find a version 2 somewhere ( Better Chipset I believe ?  )   Can someone confirm if this suffers from stability problems on WiFi 5G ?   I'm with Virgin Media on a 200mb Speed package and need a fast wireless 5G stable connection for my Quest 2 Wireless VR headset.   Thanks in advance.   Also where can I download firmware for this?  I didnt see that option in downloads or is it automatically downloaded when switched on ?

Al

@Lorcsasd thanks bud.   Yes 200 mb hopefully no problem but I'm more worried about drop outs and stability with this V1.   Should I return for a V2 edition or ?

I doubt that anyone can answer your question since v2 is pretty much new version and there is not enough feedback to tell, if there are any issues. I am using v1 and can tell, that so far it's stable on 5GHz band. So, it's your choice to return it and get the new v2.

If this was helpful click once on the arrow pointing upward. If this solves your issue, click once the star to mark it as a "Recommended Solution".

@Rasher77 Recently bought AX20 too and I've got v1.0 as well (I'm in the EU). So far router works great. I have 100/100 connection and is really stable. I haven't had any crashes or issues with Wi-Fi in particular. The only issue I had was with watching Netflix, but that was solved by lowering MTU size and clonning MAC address. Since then, everything works perfectly.

@user30   Thanks for that mate,  Im in thhe UK so I also have the V1 (EU) edition.   I've just wired in the cat 6 cabling tonight and will terminate the cabling tomorrow :)  I really am pretty lost when it comes to the best settings to use on the AX20's GUI.  Any chance you could list what your settings are and what I need to change ?   I have it hardwired to my Virgin Hub 3 ( Modem Mode ).   Thanks in advance .

PS,  Also did you update the firmware when you got it or is this done by the router automatically ?   Cheers

I'm from Croatia and I was expecting to get v1.2 or v2, thinking v1.0 is discontinued, but it's not. It looks like different versions are just targeted at different markets. 🙂

Well, I haven't changed much. Opted for static IP address (instead of dynamic IP) and changed some Wi-Fi settings. Everything else is left pretty much to default settings. If you'd like more info, just ask. 😉

Just keep in mind; if you'll have problems visiting some websites, watching videos, check MTU size and clone MAC address settings. That fixed all of my problems regarding Smart TV, Netflix and browsing Reddit on mobile.

Yes. I've updated FW during inital installation when it asked and it was done automatically. Though, I keep auto updates disabled for stability reasons. After TP-Link releases new update, I'll rather wait and read forums until I see there is nothing wrong with the update than experience some problems.

Regards!

@user30   Thanks for all the info once again 👍.   I haven't much experience with all the different terminology 😩.   How and why do I clone MAC address and I've used the same MTU (1500 ) that my isp router used. I put the isp router in modem mode.  Thanks again.

I don't know if MAC clone had some actual effect on my problem, but I did it anyway. 😁

You can find that setting in Advanced -> Internet -> MAC clone. There is an option to Clone Current Device MAC; I just selected that.

But, if everything works for you, you don't need to do it. I did it just because I had some problems.

My router didn't have MTU size setting on account I had access to, so I didn't know it needed to be lowered for my connection. Putting ISP's router in the modem mode is exactly what you should do when installing your own router. 👍
