RE650 Configuration page showing internet status as 'unknown' even though there is internet
Hello community,
So I am making this thread to address and shed the light on a very minimalistic issue, or bug, that I've been encountering with the RE650 Extender ever since I have purchased it over a year ago.
So as you may know, the RE650 has two modes: Range Extender and Access Point. Whenever I am using it as an Access Point, the main status section of the extender's configuration page always shows an exclamation mark next to the internet logo, and on the bottom there is written "Internet status: Unknown"
On the other hand, if I am using the RE650 as a Range Extender, it is not the case and everything is normal.
I have to mention that the RE650 has received so far 3 firmware updates, and I have used all 3 versions (currently on the latest build) but this issue still exists.
Maybe this small bug needs a patch? It's no big deal but I just thought of letting tplink know of it... Also if anyone has the same problem let me know!

@TP-Link I am observing the same in AP mode: "Internet Status: Unknown".
Seeing this on both my AP's:
1. RE650 v1.0, firmware 1.0.9 Build 20201112 Rel. 66232(8543)
2. RE450 v2.0, firmware 1.0.5 Build 20200914 Rel. 34203(8583)
Both connected to ASUS RT-AC87U router via Linksys Gigabit switch SD2008 v3.0 (over Ethernet).
Note:
1. Both AP's configured with:
a. Static IP address (under Network -> Settings -> Network Settings)
b. "DHCP Server" is set to "Off" (under Network -> Settings -> DHCP Server Settings)
2. !!!! If "DHCP Server" is set to AUTO, I see "Internet Status: Connected" !!!!!

Hi, thank you very much for your feedback and we have reported to the senior engineers for further assistance.
Have you tried to change the DNS server on the RE650 to 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4 to see whether it helped or not?(settings>network>DHCP server settings)
By the way, what Is the model number of your home router?
Could you please export the system log and send it to me as well?
Thank you very much and wait for your reply.

@TP-Link Alright so, changing the DNS to google’s in the DHCP settings unfortunately didn’t solve the issue.
My home router is a Huawei B525s-65a. It is a 4G LTE router.
Nevertheless, please find below the system logs of the RE650.

@Leburu I have the same issue with my RE605X. It is constantly pending between Internet Status: connected and unknown.

@bhavin i just noticee the same problem just of internet status unkown. Saw your post and set dhcp server to Auto and it also changed to connected!! Does anyone know why that is? What does DHCP Server settings have to do with the internet connection other than having it on and the ip pool conflicting with the host router's dhcp server pool. So i don't get it? why did that make a difference?

@Leburu I face the same problem, but in extender mode, made a post explaining everything in detail, and so far nothing, other companies are updating old devices and adding Mesh technology to all and devices that use the same chip that, for example, the RE650 V1 uses, but TP-LINK says it can't, and forces its customers to buy a new version, paying twice the same amount...Totally inhumane....TP-LINK get new engineers and clean up this mess, make it worth the money we give your products by adding features and improvements, not bugs and new issues with every update.

@Leburu Same problem here, except on RE200 v2.1 with latest firmware.

Hello @StepanM
Do you use default settings or manually set up static IP on the range extender ? Does refresh UI helps?
It is suggested creating a new thread with the concern with a photo, device firmware & hardware and we will try to look up that further.

@Solla-topee I did set it up to use static IP and manually configured DHCP. I use static IP for easy access to the interface through a browser at any time. Manual settings for DHCP since I like having control over stuff. I also know what I'm doing.
Internet connection works, but this is what I see in the admin interface any time I look at it:

@StepanM thank you for your photo, it seems that RE DHCP OFF lets RE think it has disconnected from router,I will check with our team and see if any improvement could be done
At this moment, as client devices could still get Internet from RE, you could leave the settings on RE, or you might try turning on DHCP server on RE shared on #5 of this thread
