Model: TL-MR3020
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 3.20

Hallo,

i´ve got a problem with the MR3020. It does not route DHCP-Requests to a subnet, when in bridge-mode.

My Setup:

1. Main-Router (192.168.0.1)

2. MR3020 with "AP"-Switch and on reapter/bridge-mode (192.168.1.1) and DHCP-Relay (192.168.0.1)

3. MacBook with cable connection to the MR3020 (EDIT: and Network mode for the Iface: DHCP with manual IP -> and then manue. adjusted address)

My goal:

The Macbook should be connected via the MR3020 in the same subnet like all the other devices, which are connected to the Main-Router. And that should work with DHCP.

What i discovered:

When i plug in the Macbook into the MR3020 it doesn´t get a DHCP IP-Address. Then i adjust the address manualy to 192.168.0.XXX to match the subnet of the Main-Router and it works. I can access Internet and i can be seen from the Main-Router subnet.

When i adjust the address to the 192.168.1.xxx subnet, i can access the MR3020 like planned.

My Problem:

The Macbook can´t get a address via DHCP.

PLEASE HELP ME! :D

When in AP mode the MR3020 should be in 192.168.0.X (same as main router) network to be able to handle DHCP requests from your laptop.

@Ivaylo

I´ve got the router now with static ip address : 192.168.0.2 (and cut it out of the DHCP range of the main-router)

Still no DHCP.

If i turn on the Mac iface to "DHCP with manual address", i can give it a manual IP-Address and the rest is set automaticly. But i have to give it an IP-Address.

I wonder if this router is capable of this method of Client-Bridge with DHCP support?

@ArvidSmartHome

Here's the device manual.

What are you trying to achieve: 2.2.4 (AP) or 2.2.5 (Repeater/Bridge) mode ? I believe you are up to 2.2.5.

For the DHCP setting - if now you configure DHCP Relay - 192.168.0.1 and set Mac to obtain the IP address via DHCP, does this work like ytou wanted to ?

@Ivaylo

Thanks for your reply! And thank your for the manual.

I checked all the options like you said and i´m in reapter/bridge-mode( 2.2.5.).

Either DHCP "off" or DHCP in "relay" mode wont work.

It just works, if i give the Mac a static IP. Then the subnetmask and Router IP is changed automaticly.

Well, I suppose there's nothing more we can do about it. If that setup suits you, you can leave it that way.

@Ivaylo

I´m a bit unhappy about the outcome, bc i thought with a brand new fw and device this should work (they sell it for bridging) but at all costs its ok for 20 Euro.

I wont complain anymore, but i have to say that client-bridge is not doable with DHCP support in my case. And i tried several devises not just the Mac.

Hope you have a great holiday! Stay Safe.
