Model: Archer C9
Hardware Version: V5
Firmware Version: 1.2.4 Build 20190403 rel.63869(4555)

I can only select channel 36, 40, 44 and 48 for my 5 GHz wifi. I have som interference issues, problem with losing connection and bad speed, but only intermittently. I have run wifi diagnostics which advices me to set the channel to 161, but this is currently not possible.

Is there anyway to be able to access these channels? I can't find a way to change the region. Time zone can be changed but when I go to e.g quick setup I don't see a region setting, or anywhere else in the settings.

Currently using latest firmware according to the router.

@Ivaylo Thank you. Okay, so I understand it's a hardware limitation that prevents me from accessing those bands.

My settings are the same as in your screenshot. I however switched the bandwidth from auto to 40 MHz the other day because the router keeps switching back and forth between different ones and at 20 MHz it is very slow.

I have also noted that if I alt-click (mac) my wifi icon, it'll display vastly different throughput speeds to the router. The country code is also varying. At the moment it reads DE, but on another Mac it reads SE simultaneously. Took a while for the router to change bandwidth as well, it remained on 20 MHz for a while after changing it. And lastly it's been acting up lately, sometimes slowing to a halt and rebooting (I assume? LEDs turn red.) or crashing every now and then. Happened twice last evening.

@Psyko

Hello, I believe you have the C9 EU version, so it only supports band 1 for the 5GHz, which is designed to comply with that of CE regulation.
5GHz band 1 channel: 36~48
5GHz band 4 channel: 149~165

As for any reboot or freeze issue, you may refer to this thread to get the beta firmware to give it a try:

@Kevin_Z Thanks for the info! I'm not sure I want to install beta firmware. Shouldn't a stable release be due soon if the betas came out in mid to late October? No reboots have taken place since I reconfigured the setup since my last reply, setting the channel to 48 and bandwidth to 80 MHz. Much improved speeds. Maybe the reboots were caused by interference, so the auto setting was forced to change channel or bandwidth? Just a guess?

However, performance is still dodgy at times. In the same room as the router I usually get 500-1000 Mbit/s but dropped to 20 a moment ago. Stuck at 150 Mbit now. No nearby 5 GHz networks using the same channel. -56 dBm RSSI and -92 dBm noise, which I interpret as pretty good numbers and is what I typically get in this location of my home. Country code this time is displayed as "CN" in the alt-click dropdown menu on my Macs wifi icon, which apparently is "Comoros", somewhere along the eastern coast of Africa.

What the heck?

@Psyko

When the speed got stuck on 150 Mbit now, what is the link speed on the mac?

How about other computers or phones, what is the speed on them when connected to the 5G?

@Kevin_Z Hi, the speeds I wrote are the link speeds between router and my computer, that appear when I alt-click the wifi icon. I don't know how to check the speed on my iPhone.

As of writing this I am sitting in the same spot in the same room. RSSI is up to -44 dBm and noise is down to -101 dBm so signal is as perfect as it could ever get.
