Try your MF190J with your PC directly. Besides, you'd better provide model number of the one compatible and ISP info..

ZTE MF 190 is one model and ZTE MF 190J is another model.

ZTE MF 190 is in the compatibility list.

The ZTE MF 190J works fine in Windows (XP and 7), O SX and Linux.
I have latest firmware in the router.

There are not compatible. Registers and turns off immediately afterwards, successively.
The Pen when connected to your PC works perfectly.

I have a TP-Link TL-MR3420 and a Modem USB 3G ZTE MF 190J.

The only way to run the router without any problem with the usb stick ZTE MF 190J is first connect a USB 3G compatible, start the connection, then disconnect the connection, remove the Pen compatible with 3G router, remove the SIM card and insert Pen in USB 3G ZTE MF 190J (with SIM card), wait for the router to recognize. After the router recognize the Pen USB 3G ZTE MF 190J, initiate the connection.

I think this may be a network problem, when going from UMTS to HSPA ... If the configuration page of the router exestice an option to choose a network, GPRS / EDGE and UMTS / HSPA and LTE.

Is there any other person with a similar problem?

I'm also trying to get ZTE MF190J (Portugal, TMN) to work with MR3420 with no success. It seems that the modem does'nt even start when conected to the router. When conected directly to the PC it works Fine.

Another one I'm trying to work whit MR3420 is ZTE MF820D (Portugal, TMN). In this case I've uploaded ZTE MF820 bin from Hong Kong but with limited success, sometimes it connects and works for some minutes but most of the times it just keeps registering and turing off afterwards. And yes connected directly to the PC the modem works fine.

There is growing evidence that some modems may exceed the TP-Link router USB power source, causing a variety of problems.

This mainly occurs in weak signal areas when the modem is at maximum transmit power.

Is your signal weak?

Since the modem is recognised, but the connection is unreliable; no harm in trying a USB Y-cable


and connect it to a 2nd source of USB power.

Well after trying just about everything I coukd think of (and trust me I'm full of ideas! :rolleyes: lol) and before reading "Wahroonga Farm" reply I simply tryed to connect the modem using a USB extender, i.e not plugging the modem directly to the router's USB Port instead using a USB extender to connect to the router's USB port and the modem connected in the other end of the cable and... Happy Days!

I've used a cable like this one:




Before using the USB cable extender the modem would'nt even light up the "starting leds".
I've got also the feeling that it is best to wait for the router to fully start up (SYS & WLAN LEDs flashing) before connecting the modem.

Also I've uploaded all 3 bin files of MF190 I've found in 3G/4G Modem Bin File Center even from other countrys / ISPs.

By the way were I'm at (Portugal/Algarve/Armação de Pêra), the signal is as good for 3G as for 4G (I have one modem of each) always 70% or more.

I've had the thought for a while that simply re-locating the USB modem away from the router is a good idea.

A number of router manufactures ( e.g. Netgear, Dovado) provide a usb extension cable and desk mount.

Is there some signal interference or some other weird effect ... I don't know.???

But that's the way I run my modems in any case. :)

El problema es ese, falta de tensión en el modem 3g, al haber baja cobertura.

Is this the 2nd source of USB power???:
Universal AC to USB Power Supply input (110V~220V), output 5V 1A (1000mA)

It`s ok 1000mA??
