Implemented No openvpn client option on Archer AX11000?
Hello,
just found out that my newly bought Archer AX11000 router does not have an option to setup an openvpn client to ExpressVPN.
What a huge dissapointment.
My previous router was een Assus and with this router (I think with every Assus router ) it was possible to do so, but it was 2,5 years old so not powerfull enough to have a vpn tunnel fast enough.
That is why I bought this router for 373 euros, approx $400!
Of course you can say, if I informed myself good enough I would have known.
But unfortunatly I didn't. Well, at least not enough.
So my request to TP-Link is, can you please produce a firmware update which add this openvpn client option!
If this will not happen I'm forced to sell this router with a loss and buy an Assus router again and never switch to another brand again!
Please, please, please
Thank you
Sincerely,
Lex

If you updated on 8/22, then your advanced setting should reveal a vpn client which is a first for the AX110000. The setting offers the ability to select an openvpn capability.
There are numerous free vpn providers. I like the vpnjantit dot com provider. It gives the set up file for openvpn you simply import into the AX110000 and click activate. Or, you can use the L2TP information to load the less secure protocol and activate it.
I used expressvpn for years, but their price was way over the top. The free vpn providers are free of any charge and the are as stable and secure as expressvpm.

They might have release a new version for the firmware but trying to update firmware from within the router yeild: Your firmware is up to date, there is no update available
(my version is 1.3 and hardware version 1.0)

There might be some internet interrupt issue in some special network environment as reported on this thread, so the 1.3.1 Build 20220721 may not be available to be updated, and that's why you got some errors when trying to upgrade that version.
I just updated my thread, you can find a beta firmware version that adds the support for VPN Client feature, please try installing it on your Archer AX11000 to monitor its performance:

Is this VPN client an all-or-nothing setting or can one selectively route through the VPN based on some criteria e.g. subnet/ip, vlan, device, etc?

@-someone- The user can upload a configuration file from a commercial VPN provider, or the user can put in criteria like an IP address, username and password to access non-commercial VPN servers.

Thank you for the answer, though it doesn't answer the question.
Phrased another way. If I set up the router as VPN client. Will all (WAN) traffic go through the VPN or is this configurable on, for example, vlan, source/destination?

@-someone- The way I use the router, all WAN traffic goes through th VPN. I do not select which WAN traffic goes or does not go coming to me, though I can select which traffic I can send out. I can run a VPN app and use a different datacenter, or I can turn off the VPN client for other computers on my network. If the question is can I select which WAN source I can pipe through the VPN or not, I never tried it so I do not know if I can. I hope that answers the question.

They add OpenVPN support but there is no options to add CA cert and other certs. Just one option to upload a config file and that's it.
Doesn't work for me with one of the most popular VPN provider.
