Archer MR600 - 4G Bands selection
Echoing millions of others request, where is the update firmware to choose specific 4g bands?????!!!!!??????
and also on 4g+ bands tο choose 2 bands together????
Without this function, this router perform so badly that sharing hotspot via smartphone yield similar result. Why do people still buy this product? (Yes, if you have not yet bought this product, DON'T)
And guys, people did research before they bought this product. Imagine what your customer will think when they realize this issue before their purchase? Do you still think people will choose your product while others like Huawei is readily available?
Please put this on first priority. We have been patiently waiting for months.
Thanks.

Incidentally, encountered a bug in the beta firmware: After I've chosen bands 3 and 28 it connected to them. I switched to 7 and 28, but it stayed connected to bands 3 and 28. I set band a and band b to 7 and it switched to 7. I then switched it to 7 and 28 and it connected to 7 and 28. So it does the job, but clearly has some slight glitches behind the scenes.
Local bands are 1, 3 and 20. Band 1 on its own is the fastest. Band 3 is next and Band 20 has the least bandwidth. I can only get a combination of 3,20 to work. Attempting to select 1,20 gives 20 only. 1,3 gives 3 only. 1,1 3,3 and 20,20 also don't aggregate.
So the only aggregate combo I can get working is 3,20 which is typically slower than 1 on it's own. Really annoying. From a table floating around this forum I should be able to atleast get 1,20 and 3,3 working.

Hi, sorry for the delay.
Have you referred to this link to update the firmware: https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/1667/
If failed again, what is your current firmware and how about the region code, EU, UN or something else?(you could find it on the product label.)
And please also send me a screen-shot of the error message of the firmware update?
Thank you very much!

@Simi I've tried it in different situations and 9 times out of 10 there seems to be no problem with aggregation. Interestingly, an install I did to a tower transmitting bands 3,7, and 28 worked fantastically on the standard firmware. That went completely to pot when the network provider but up a new tower directly in between them and the old tower, but only transmitting on band 28. I finished up forcing that router to only work on band 28 to get the best performance: clearly 3 and 7 off the old tower was creating a lot of confusion. I did also try selecting 3 and 7, but the performance was terrible relative to what it used to be, but they'd probably lowered the power on the mast because of the new mast.
Ultimately, this is why having the manual options is such a powerful tool: giving you the power to choose what works best. I suspect that when aggregation works worst, the problem is environmental rather than in the router.

Just starting to get my head round all this Band stuff so hope you dont mind if i jump on this thread a bit!
My MR600 is showing Band 3 only in the 'network' section of the router settings and doesnt look like everyone else that either says 3 and 20 or 3,3. I've checked Cellmapper and my nearby mast is indeed Band 3 only so does this mean I'll never get 4G+ speeds or benefit from CA? Is the 3,3 meaning it using CA to use two differen masts that are using Band 3?

It SHOULD work, but in practice of the bands near me 1,3 & 20, only 3,20 will aggregate (default selection). Any attempts to aggregate any other combination of bands fails, picking a single band of the two selected seemingly at random.
I've manually set it to band 1 as it tends to offer the highest speed, Which makes sense given it's the widest channel. Next fastest is 3 on it's own as aggregating with band 20 tends to drag down speeds as it is a very narrow channel and is primarily used for indoor/rural coverage.

In any given country, different bands are licensed for use for LTE. In the case of France these are 3,7,20, and 28 Different providers bought licenses for different frequencies. Orange use 3,7,20, and 28 SFR and Bouygues use 3 and 20 Free use 3,7, and 28. When the router is left to its own devices it will pick what channels it tests to be best (I think). In France, on SFR and Bouygues then this is academic because 3 and 20 are the only two bands anyway, so if only one band is offered then that's what you'll get, and if two bands are offered and they're stable enough then you'll get aggregation of 3 and 20. Even in this situation though, I'll sometimes find that forcing selection of only one band or the other will give a better real world performance than the aggregation option. Similarly, with free, I have a choice of bands 3,7, and 28. More often than not, by default it will default to aggregating 3 and 7, but usually I find the best performances are choosing 3 and 28, although sometimes just forcing band 28 only will still be the best. If the tower you're connecting to only offers one band, then one band is all you're going to get. It's possible that there are rules at the mast end that can prevent aggregation, maybe to allow more connections, but I'm just speculating on that. Personally, I've been able to aggregate any bands I want if the signal is strong enough.

I'm using the beta firmware which is getting me over some band issues in my area but I'm frustrated that the router is automatically reverting back to the stable release firmware. When are you going to have an official release with band selection?
