Archer C9 Ping Spikes
Archer C9 Ping Spikes
Hi everyone,
I've gone through as many threads as I could on the subject before I posted myself, as it seems to be a fairly common issue that I just can't seem to find a resolution for.
I'm having frustrating ping spikes on a consistent basis, that I don't know how to resolve. I'm on a 5g network (using a TP-Link Archer C9), with no other devices visible from neighbours in the channel at all. I've installed a WLAN optimiser to test if that could possibly resolve the issue, and have gone through as many network settings as I could find to see if any of them are affecting it, but nothing seems to reduce it, so really open to any and all suggestions.
Here's a screenshots of 3 ping-tests I've done to my ISP, router and google - the router ping seems to be the lowest affected:

Really appreciate any ideas.

Hello, does the ping spikes affect the actual performance of the Archer C9?
From the picture attached, the higher latency with connected to the ISP modem directly, first, you can contact their tech support to get some help.
As for the Archer C9, may I know what kind of network settings you have changed?
Have you ever tried to enable QoS and set up different priority levels for each application or each device?
Besides, please ensure that the firmware of the ISP modem and the Archer C9 are up to date.
Good day.

@Jordan_Stewart However, about a month ago, I started experiencing horrible lag spikes/frame loss during the game My Texas Benefits.

@Kevin_Z The ping definitely affects the performance. I use my internet for a lot of streaming and multiplayer games where the connection is critical, and the ping spikes are definitely noticeable.
I've contatced my ISP and they can't identify what is causing the spikes.
Any network settings I did modify, have all been reverted to default, as I did a reset of the router, so they'll be all on the default settings, outside of the 2.ghz network and 5ghz network being on specified channels.
Haven't tried QoS as of yet, will this be a potential solution for the issue?
How would I go about checking if the ISP modem is up to date?
Thanks for answering any of these!

Review the wireless Transmit Power setting, try the low option and see how this goes. If the Transmit Power is set to high, the router is drawing more power, which produce more heat and might cause instability/reliability issue.
Next, attempt to separate your WiFi SSID network setting to help with troubleshooting, i.e. use SSID WiFi1 for 2.4GHz and WiFi2 for 5GHz, with different password. Connect to the 5GHz SSID and see if ping spikes continue. Additionally, is the ping spike occurs for all devices connecting to the 5GHz or only specific device?
(For some reason, I can't view the screenshots from PasteBoard so I can't comment on these.)

My confusion is, that this issue has only arisen after setting up my 5ghz network (I've tested on both 2.4 and 5ghz, just never had the 5ghz properly setup). Seems to have arisen out of nowhere
