I'm looking at adding Deco P9s to my Sky Router. The easiest way to do this would seem to be to:-

1) Change my existing Sky Router's wifi network name from "Wireless" to "SkyWireless". (Or even just turn off my Sky's wifi network)

2) Add the Decos onto the Sky Router in Access Point mode, with a network name of "Wireless" (& the same password as my old Wireless network).

Done...

So all devices around the house should then simply be using the new Deco "Wireless" network?

The question I have is, by using the Decos in Access Point mode what functionality is lost?

1) Will I still be able to see what wifi devices are connected to the Decos and how much data they are currently using? eg: Is a child in their bedroom watching youtube on their ipad? I assume you can't see a history of usage of a device?

2) Be able to limit a device bandwidth wise?

3) Do you retain user profiles with associated devices and being able to see their current usage? I assume you can't see a history?

^ OR do you lose all of this in Access Point mode?

If anyone has any first hand knowledge of using Decos with a SkyRouter that would be useful too?

ps: I have Plex running, and some port forwarding rules (on my Sky router) for a game server I run, hence why Access Point mode seems like a good idea. ie: It should risk upsetting any of that existing stuff!?

Hello, you can add the Deco P9 as the access point  to boost the mesh wifi network. Or you can configure SKy router as bridge mode and the Deco P9 as the main router.

The feature to see what wifi devices are connected to the Decos and how much data they are currently using relates to the firmware, whether it is supported by the Deco P9.

QoS does not available in access point mode; You can read this article to get the differences between router mode and AP mode.

May it help.

@Kevin_Z The articles showing AP in action seem a little vague.

Ultimately they seem to suggest in AP mode, the Deco P9 can't even show what wifi devices current data use are, which seems bizarre? How can it not know/report how much data from a particulare wifi device is going through it?

Hello, some advanced features are not supported in AP mode, like parental control, QoS, Antivirus.

And the new features will be added via firmware upgrading; some Deco products support the feature to display the current data of specific device; and for the feature it does not support, we will forward it to our product department.

Good day.

@Kevin_Z  Understood, but I'm not interested in parental control, QoS, Antivirus. The main feature I'm interested in is seeing the devices connected over wifi and their realtime/current usage, and if possible a history.

The question comes down to, is that offered in AP mode. Because some screenshots I've seen suggests it is not, which seems bonkers given the Decos should surely still be able to monitor that irrespective of their mode?

Hello, thanks for your reply.

Some devices support this feature already-- to display the relatime/current usage of a connected device, like Deco M9 plus, Deco P7. And from monthly report, we can review some details about the connection within a month, like the devices used to connected to the Deco, and the new devices; and we can check the time that the devices in the profile spent online and the website that has been viewed in Insights (parental control).

Good day.

@Kevin_Z So the question remains, can the P9, in Access Point mode, show (wifi) device usage in realtime, ideally also with some sort of history too?

Hello, as I tested at our end, there is no realtime usage displaying when Deco P9 works in AP mode. While this feature will be added via firmware upgrade.

May it help.

@Kevin_Z So live data usage per device is not currently available in AP mode, but should be added by a firmware update sometime?
