Model: Archer C3150
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version:

Hello,

I bought this router few days ago, previously I had Archer C7 v4 which has only USB 2.0. I bought Archer C3150 V2 because it had USB 3.0, USB 2.0 port, Beamforming, MU-MIMO and other cool feature. I used my router to download contents directly to my hard disk using Offline Download feature.

But the Archer C3150 V2 has not received any firmware updates in the last 3 years. There are a lot of features missing in this router which are actually present in cheaper routers like Archer C7. This is very disappointing that this router was marked with NEW in the Tp-link product page but never got any update in 3 years.

Features missing:

Offline Download

Scheduled Reboot

Performance Overview in homepage

LED control in Tether App

All these features are present in older and cheaper routers. Is there any Beta Firmware for this router? Or is is discontinued altogether?

Z

Buying TP-link products is just a waste of money, they don't even support their hardware for more than a year. This router had a great hardware but a shitty garbage software which doesn't use the full potential of the processor present in it.

Consider this before buying any products from them. It is better to buy Asus products, they have great hardware and superior software.

@Archer3150

As you can see, the Archer C3150 V2 is still alive.

https://www.tp-link.com/support/download/archer-c3150-v2/

Generally speaking, a new firmware will be released if there is some new feature added or some problems fixed. While until now, the Archer C3150 V2 works well, that is why there is no firmware available.

Meanwhile for the differences between the Archer C7 and Archer C3150, it is related to the hardware settings; and regarding to the actual performance, the Archer C3150 should be better.

Best regards.

Yes I understand, but these features are present on much lower priced routers. Why TP-Link cannot port these features to Archer C3150 router? On some regions, it is marketed as "Brand New" while lacking many useful features with no firmware update in past 3 years

@Kevin_Z

Let's agree to disagree on this:

Generally speaking, a new firmware will be released if there is some new feature added or some problems fixed. While until now, the Archer C3150 V2 works well, that is why there is no firmware available.

Right now promised features are still missing - little reminder on the box and here.

Features found in older, cheaper, low end routers like uptime viewer, scheduled reboot and others are missing as well.

Bugs are crawling all over the (2017) firmware - as soon as you touch QoS settings the fun begins and bandwidth gets cut in half.

The 5ghz band goes rogue sometimes.

We are pleased with C3150v2 random freezing.

And so on.

C3150v2 seems pretty dead...

Yes, the QoS has problems too. Being a dual core router, USB 3.0 and it doesn't have the many features found on older routers too.

The Tp-link website in my region says that this router is "new". I should have checked the firmware version in the beginning. It feels like downgrading from my Archer C7.

I sent these queries to the Tp-link support and they said that they forwarded the details to the development team. But I don't have any hopes for the new firmware.

Also it doesn't have support for OneMesh technology from Tplink

In my opinion, TP-link choose some new models released recently to add the onemesh feature; Which I think it is acceptable. A new function will start from now and will be added to more devices in the future, while for the routers which have been existed for many years, their priorities must be lower.

https://www.tp-link.com/us/onemesh/compatibility/

And we need compare the differnet devices based on the hardware and actual performance. The features possessed varies a lot due to the chipset, design concept or so. Price is not the only way to judge them.

I agree. But they should at least release a new firmware with scheduled reboot and offline downloading. The router has a USB 3.0 if it had the offline downloading feature, it would be the best device for downloading large files directly to the hard drive. Sad thing is that, this router is not yet supported by dd-wrt or openwrt

I got your point, it would be better to have offline downloading feature with the USB3.0; you can email TP-link a product improvement recommendation. and I believe that they will register ever feedback they received and propose a firmware upgrade if there is a large amount of similar cases.

This one is for US users, if you are based there, then use it, otherwise, you can get the local tech support email address to do that.
