Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version:

Hello all,

I am having hard time trying to make my USB wifi adapter work at the 150 Mbps it says it should be capable of working at.

My router is Apple Airport Extreme Tower (802.11a/b/g/n/ac). Using 2,4 and 5 Ghz networks. Channels are 11 and 48 respectively.

All other devices at home (Macbooks, iPhones and AppleTV) are using the maximum speed they have, but my gaming PC, which uses the TL-WN722N adapter is suffering from low speeds :(

The PC runs Windows 10, it is about 5 meters away from the router with no obstacles in the way.

Any hints to what should I do to get the maximum connection speed, because I really ran off ideas? :(

Hi,

The actual speed is limited by the wireless negotiation speed.

Try to reinstall the driver, below is the download link:

https://www.tp-link.com/support/download/tl-wn722n/#Driver

Then you can change another USB port to plug it and test the speed.

Besides, you can change another computer to do a comparison test.

Any updates, please let us know.

Nice day.

Hello Kevin_Z

Thanks for your reply.

Trying a different USB port and reinstalling the driver were the first two things I tried, alas with no success.

I don't have another PC arround, but I did download the Mac driver and installed the dongle on my MacBook Pro. Again the connection speed is 72 Mbps :(

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback.

Both Mac and windows 10 has the same wireless link speed for now, please login to the web interface of the main router to adjust some wireless settings.

For example, for channel, you can change it to channe 1, 6 or 11.

For channel width, please select 40MHz.

After that, please reconnect the laptop to the wifi and check the link speed.

Meanwhile, with other wireless devices connect to the main wifi, what is the wireless link speed?

Nice day.

Hello again Kevin,

Here is the list of all devices currently connected:

My PC is "Monster- Cookie", connected at 72 Mbps (2,4 Ghz network)

My MacBook is "Silver-Retina", connected at 450 Mbps (5 Ghz network)

My iPhone is "SilverCookie", connected at 144 Mbps (2,4 Ghz network)

My wife's MacBook is "Space-Cookie", connected at 104 Mbps (2,4 Ghz network)

Now looking at the connection data I see the the 5 Ghz network is at 40 Mhz butts, but the 2,4 Ghz network works with 20 Mhz channel butts, although the router is set to use wide channels for all.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

Is it possible for you to adjust the channel width of 2.4GHz manually to 40Mhz?

After that, please test the wireless negotiation speed and the actual speed.

Meanwhile, you can find the public driver online with the chipset of the adapter below to give it a go.

No, the airport utility, which is used to set the Apple Airport Extreme Tower does not have that option. I can only choose "use wide channels" sa a general option for the entire network setup (both 2,4 and 5 Ghz), but it seems the router only uses 40 Mhz strips for the 5 Ghz network (by default) and chooses to use 20 Mhz for the 2,4 Ghz network.

I could only find a Realteck driver with this chipset. Is there a specific place I should be looking for this "public" driver?

Hi,

You can install this realtek driver to give it a go.

Meanwhile, cause the current channel width of 2.4GHz is 20Mhz, is there any other wireless networks can be used to do a comparison analysis?

Even you can enable the hotspot on your cellphone to give it a go?

Good day.

I've tried 3 different drivers for this chipset (Asus, Realtek, Plugable). The connection speed remained at 72 Mbps.

Tried connecting to my phone's hotspot and also creating a WiFi network through my MacBook, again connection speed was 72 Mbps.

I'm starting to give up :(
