Try the bin file for your modem from the TP-LINK website.

Hello, I'm not trying to hijack the thread but I'm having a similar problem and I don't know if it was resolved in your case.
I have tried this Modem:
ZTE MF190
Provider: Claro
Region: Nicaragua
and I have not been successful. I have tried that modem with these devices and firmwares:
MR 3420 Hardware v1
Firmware Version: 3.12.21 Build 120523 Rel.37880n
------------------------------------
MR3040
Firmware Version:
3.14.2 Build 120822 Rel.40902n
-------------------------
MR3420 - Hardware v2
Firmware Version:
3.13.24 Build 120703 Rel.55807n
---------------------------------
MR3420 - Hardware v2
Firmware Version:
3.13.27 Build 120905 Rel.73281n0
I have tried many bin files for the MF190 also and have not had success. It seems the modem is recognized but it is unable to connect to the network. In one particuar case, it connected after 30 minutes but I have not been able to reproduce this result.
Thanks in advance for any insight in this matter.

Re:TL-MR3420 does not recognizes ZTE MF190

try latest firmware; try binfile.
I also get the following method from the website
Step 1: Plug the 3G modem to your computer.
Step 2: (On Windows XP) clickStart->go to All programs->Accessories->Communications->HyperTerminal->choose the corresponding COM port for the 3G mode
Connection parameters are:
Bits per Second: 115200
Data bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop bits: 1
Flow Control: None
Once connected, type the following command and you would get a message telling you the operation successful, and then exit Hyper Terminal.
AT+ZCDRUN=8
Connect the 3G modem back to the router and restart the router, then check the 3G section to see whether itwould be recognized or not.

Re:TL-MR3420 does not recognizes ZTE MF190

Thank you! I have been looking for that command for a long time. I had some modems that were not recognized and I wanted to try to disable that.
Unfourtanely the problem I have is that the modem is recognized by the router but it is unable to make a connection.
What I see in the the system log after the router tries to connect is this:
INFO sw3GMobileCmdReq 378 mobileFormatCmd error
I believe it's not a configuration error because I insert the same SIM card in another modem without changing any configuration in the router and it works without a problem.

Have you tried to manually fill in the correct APN and dial number within the 3G part? I catch a massage in the log:
1st day 00:21:41 3G/4G NOTICE 3G Modem connecting error, please check the dial number and APN.

Yes, I have tried it. In fact if I insert another modem to the router using the same SIM card without changing any APN or dial number configuration in the router it works. So the APN and dial number are correct.
Very strange.

Hi,
Good news.
We now have a BlackWidow release that fully supports the many TP-Link USB routers and most recently the MR3420 V2 and the ZTE MF821D, Huawei E3276 and other late model USB modems. It may recognise many other 3G and 4G modems as it has many different USB connection protocols in-built, unlike the stock TP-Link firmware.
Follow the links from the Whirlpool WIKI.
A couple of words of warning for users with the E3276 (and other late model 3G/ 4G modems), that we have found along the way:
1. The E3276 may under some conditions (generally low signal levels), draw more power than the router can provide. This may lead to unstable performance and connection. The solution is a USB Y - Cable and an additional USB 5v supply.
2. The E3276 may under certain conditions require a USB cable with ferrite bead 'interference isolation' to ensure stable operation.
Cheers
John k
PS Please report back with your performance results and please drop into the BlackWidow support thread HERE as there are many exciting developments on the way. We know there are many downloads of this software from all over the world, so we would love to hear the feed-back.
