Hello,

I'm interested in buying M7650. Most of the time I'm home and I want to have the modem to be plugged in all the time. I don't want the battery to remain in device. I wanted to see if I can just remove the battery. Would M7650 still work?

Thanks for your time

Hi all

TL;DR: if your current firmware version supports running it without battery, do not upgrade.

I got some answers from support.

Full answers:

>In order to protect the MiFi device, current firmware has already limited the device usage without battery, it cannot be powered on when only connected to charger without battery.

>Using it without battery might damage the MiFi device, that's why it is not allowed to use without battery now.

> All the firmware for M7650 V1.1 should have the limitations

> Regarding the device hot issue, if it is overheating, please make sure power saving mode is still enabled and try to change the WiFi range to Short to reduce the transmit power, and also make sure it is used in an open and cool environment, avoid direct sunlight etc.

It works without the battery. But I think it's better to keep the battery in the device.

I own an M7350 and I kept the battery in the device while it was plugged in all the time. The battery got swollen up to the point that it cracked the back lid.

Why do you recommend keeping the battery? It may damage the device?

Yes, but it seems the battery is not good...under this condition, you can remove the battery

I confirm. It works like a charm without a battery. So you could possibly use a power bank to power the device if the battery drains out when on the road.

@asmith

did you get this modem? I did because of this forum. My battery got swollen like you (with another modem) and the modem doesn't work.... do you or anybody know how?

Thanks

My device used to work without battery. Recently it started crashing all the time, so I had to do a factory reset. Since then it does not work any more without battery.

It now only starts to gray battery symbol with a power cable.

I would much prefer to use it without battery.
