@KJDouglas

Absolutely disgusting! They advertised this device with the promise of the feature to be added, not MAYBE added!

I'm pretty sure what they are doing isn't legal and I'm wondering if there are grounds for legal action?

@CraftyClown I completely agree. I'll do some looking into it, if nothing else it's incredibly shady.

@CraftyClown

They are still advertising it too:
"* 160MHz bandwidth technology will follow later by updating"

Sounds like a violation of the UK's Unfair Trading Regulations to me!

@camaran Not to mention the marketing clearly states: "The Fastest VDSL Modem Router – The Archer VR2800 runs at 2167Mbps on 5GHz and 600Mbps on 2.4GHz"

Well after being treated like a fool by the TP Link support staff about this issue, and yet again no firmware update to enable 160mhz, what am I to do?

I could report it to trading standards I suppose. I would very much like my money back for this router though, and the fact they are *still* selling it as 2800mhz so far down the line, how many customers have they tricked into thinking that this was actually working right from the get-go.

Embarrassing.

@KJDouglas

Hi All, Thanks for your feedback.

There is no plan to add 160mhz in the later firmware release on Archer VR2800;

And the firmware will only be added should resources and hardware allow, while the advertisement was never intended as a guarantee and more of a reference.

We understand how it was causing some confusion, to that regard we have already removed the advertisement from the TP-Link official website.

Appreciated your understanding and support.

@TP-Link

Your marketing material states that 2800Mbps will be supported on this router in a later update. You have committed yet another offense by editing this out of your marketing material, but fortunately I have printed and dated records that relate to this.

Hi, Thanks for your feedback.

I did not see any advertising details about the 160mhz support on 5ghz of Archer VR2800 and we also have no plan to add this feature in the later firmware release;

May I know where you saw the future support of 160mhz on the Archer VR2800 and can I have pictures or links?

As for the 2167Mbps on 5GHz and 600Mbps on 2.4GHz, they are the maximum wireless link speed  and did not refer to the same thing as 160mhz on the 5ghz;

Thank you very much and wait for your reply.

@KJDouglas

I should also add that the manufacturer is responsible for meeting the promised functionality of a product being sold, otherwise they are breaching the product description regulations in the UK.

I believe as you have now edited your marketing and embarrassed yourselves you are duty bound to offer a recall on the product for a refund to the customers who were mis-sold your product.

@TP-Link

The internet archive for the TPLINK web page for the VR2800 shows that 160 mhz was clearly promised:

https://web.archive.org/web/20200814172821/https://www.tp-link.com/uk/home-networking/dsl-modem-router/archer-vr2800/

"* 160MHz bandwidth technology will follow later by updating"
