Hi,

I have 2 deco M4s and one is connected to the modem and one is a few metres away in the other room their is only a concrete wall between them.

They are running as access points I have tried both router and access point modes.

I have 1000mbps fibre internet and I seem to only get around 400 Mbps on the deco next to my computer. Is this normal?

if it is, would you recommend I get a WiFi range extender? Will that be faster or is there another deco model which I can get which will bring closer to the 1000mbps internet speed?

Hi,

You can stand next to the satellite Deco, and connect your phone to the main Deco, and test the wireless speed you can get at this certain place.

Then you can compare it with the speed you get from the satellite Deco unit to check if it slow or not.

If you still find the speed is abnormal, please first refer to this guidance.

Slow speed on satellite Deco

  @Sunshine

When I stand next to the main deco the wifi speed is just a bit faster but still not 1000mps.

The maximum WiFi speed you could get from Main Deco M4 will be in the range of 500Mbps-600Mbps. It is because M4 only supports WiFi5 protocol. For M4, WiFi5 theoretical speed limit is 867Mbps, but in real life about 70% of that speed can be achievable, in best conditions.

You'll need to replace M4 with WiFi mesh (Deco or different brand) that supports WiFi6, to get wireless speeds closer to gigabit.

Satellite Deco will deliver approximately half of the Main Deco WiFi speed. This is not the limitation of Deco, but of WiFi mesh technology. You should expect same speed loss on Satellites with any WiFi mesh brand.
