Hi

this is a "help me choose" question, with apologies if this is trivial:  I'm out to find a WISP capable router that maintains an operational local network (shared resources available' for exapmle, a NAS) even when the WISP itself is down. TP-link support indicated that no such device exists is that accurate?

many thanks!

@rdude

You can have WISP mode with one of the entry level models like TL-WR841N. Here's how to configure.

I can't confirm (never used this setup) if it can maintain an operational local network even when the WISP itself is down, but I wonder why it wouldn't ?

Unfortunatelly no spare WR841N around to simulate this scenario as a test.

@terziyski thanks.   The tp link chat line said it wouldn't work.   I do need something tolerant of marginal wisps and hotel landing pages...

@rdude

No.

You can easily check that for any wireless router from its specification page:

ok thanks;  the picture is getting clearer:  only the entry level models support wisp?  Without reading every spec sheet how does one know?

perhaps a better solution is to add a client bridge device to an existing router?  something like this:
