  @PhantomR1982

As said the main issue in the UK is how VOIP is being rolled out in the UK.

Most people will make do with their ISP provided router - agian in most cases these are plug in and go and given names like superhub, hub2, smart hub and so on .

 When they realise the wifi is rubbish, or the cheap ISP router provided keeps cutting out they will moan that the ISP is rubbish as the wifi keeps cutting out and make an effort ot move ISP when possible, or may journey to Currys and buy a replacement.

Same again with landlines, most people wil want to keep their number, FTTP and so on is bundled in with a landline number in the UK, move or stop your landline number that you may have had for years and even decades and the internet service is stopped with it .

AS mentioned before, ISPs sell FTTP bundled with your landline number , if you move to a VOIP service it will be bundled with the FTTP service and if you want to use it, it will be through your ISP supplied router - as the likes of BT, Talk Talk, Vodafone etc will not let you use your own ATA as they will not provide the passwords/info you need in order to do such a thing.

 Thats just the way ISPs in the UK are rolling things out, effectivly it will also lock people out of using their own kit, and will make it un economical for manufacturers such as TP Link to provide consumer devices with ATA's

@Richard_T123 to be fair most providers have already started seperating the landline portion of there services and concentrating on the "Broadband Only" Portion of the service and while i do agree with you on that the wifi side of things has always been down to the router & the Internet signal provided by the ISP.

Companies like @TP-Link are Providers of the Hardware to Give People back that control.

Yes Most People will want to keep there Landline Service so will go with whatever equipment the provider they want to stay with offers but VOIP Provisioning incurs more fees than the traditional landline services where FTTP doesnt require a Landline to Operate the line this is why the VOIP Service is being implemented in advance.

If Customers want to buy there Own Hardware then they can Port there Landline to a 3rd Party Service like i have done to avoid future charges and then its just a case of sorting out the 3rd Party ATA or VOIP Enabled Router to connect to the FTTP Input Cable or Ethernet Cable from the Deployed Equipment and Provider once it arrives everywhere.

The best solution from a consumer point of view would be to make the details freely available so that should you want to you can use your own equipment ( and in turn be responsible for setting it up etc) . The current roll out and implementation does seem like a huge retrograde step , almost back to the days ( before my time ) of the GPO and hardwired phones and its either our equipment or no service
